La Plaza Comunitaria and La Paz de Dios will host an annual Hispanic health fair Sunday in conjunction with Binational Health Week, organizers said.
Mirtha Jones, director of Plaza Comunitaria, an initiative of Chattanooga State Technical Community College, said it is important to have a health fair specifically for Hispanics because "There are a lot of Latinos in the area that don't have access to medical care."
She said this is the second year the health fair will be held together with Binational Health Week.
The fair will include about 20 different organizations offering information on various illnesses, such as tuberculosis, epilepsy and testing for HIV and AIDS, according to organizers. The fair also will have entertainment and door prizes.
Kasey Poole, spokeswoman for the Chattanooga Hamilton County Health Department, which is participating in the health fair, said outreach "is always important when we work with the community."
She said it is fundamental to educate people about health care services available to them, and interpreters will be available for participants who need them.
"We want to make sure we provide all the information in their language and let them know there are other places where they can receive free health care services," Ms. Jones said.
She said organizers are expecting 250 to 300 people at the fair.
Binational Health Week is an annual weeklong series of health-promotion and health-education activities geared toward migrants and immigrants from Mexico and Central America.

Where did it say illegal aliens in the story? Oh, you said... because you hate Hispanics.
Sad.
Horsesh*t! If this was labeled WHITE health fair(never happen in the first place) it would be front page news, The NAACP, LaRaza and all the other usual suspects would be screaming “racism” & would be picketing in front of the building. The MSM would be there interviewing Al Sharpton and Janet Murguia as they lament how far we still have to go in the battle against racism. The Chattanooga Hamilton County Health Department would start distancing itself and making inane comment about how it didn’t understand.
“That you never see the label ‘white’ associated with any reputable organization or charity or event has a lot of historical and social reasons.”
Excusable racism. Funny how racist always excuse “their” racism.
Then there's also the patronizing idea of whites never advocating for whites, since they are somehow better than these lowly minorities anyway. The smirks you see posted sometimes when there's a non-descript story of low-level governmental incompetence and how afirmative action was somehow responsible, for example.
“What a racist event. Of course of governments support racism as long as you are not white.”
Why? When I go to the south I see poor-white-trash events outside at the travelling carnaval every weekend......
Talk about racist
I do hear about German Days, or Italian Days, or Irish, and Greek... but uh, I guess you just one of them “enlightened” white folks... with magic shoes, and stove top hats, where culture doesn’t matter... unless it involves fried mayonnaise dipped in ranch dressing.
That is a lie. She never said that!
So at least you are admitting you are actually that stupid to think in a country overrun with millions and millions of Hispanic illegal aliens that there will be no illegals at this? Typical Raza supporter. The press loves people like you because the can lead you around by the nose.
Por la raza todo!
Oh, “that’s a lie!!” oh, heavens, heaven forbid someone call me on formenting hatred!!!
Cry baby. If you are gonna hate, at least admit you hate instead of wrapping it up in the noble act of enforcing border control.
You make all of us who support border control look bad when you behavior in a retarded manner.

(yawn, just checked grammar)
“carrying nothing in their backpacks but a handbook”
AND third-world diseases
“fear that even one illegal immigrant might be there”
Spreading tuberculosis
Hispanic CITIZENS don’t need a spanish speaking fair because legal immigrant applicants for naturalization must be able to read, write, speak, and understand words in ordinary usage in the English language (with some exceptions).By not learning the language, don’t you agree the individual is in danger of exploitation?
“People have a 1st Amendment right of free association”
US Constitution guarantees rights to American Citizens, not
‘people’
Enjoy your unhappiness.
“when you behavior in a retarded manner.”
And all the English professors sigh.
Happiness is possessing a certified American birth certificate or proper PERMISSION to be in this country. Remember, hezbollah and hamas sneak into the US. While I thank you for your assessment of my emotional well being, you did fail to address the issue of exploitation of persons with a language barrier.
“And all the English professors sigh.”
Ah, the grammar police. Nice to know you are still out there... but your laziness is twice that of your wit. Look down one post nit.
What an interesting display of your personal bigotry.
“The taxpayers, of course, but I didnt see any Tennessee agencies on their list.”
The Hamilton County Health Department will be there...

Admin Moderator,
