La Plaza Comunitaria and La Paz de Dios will host an annual Hispanic health fair Sunday in conjunction with Binational Health Week, organizers said.
Mirtha Jones, director of Plaza Comunitaria, an initiative of Chattanooga State Technical Community College, said it is important to have a health fair specifically for Hispanics because "There are a lot of Latinos in the area that don't have access to medical care."
She said this is the second year the health fair will be held together with Binational Health Week.
The fair will include about 20 different organizations offering information on various illnesses, such as tuberculosis, epilepsy and testing for HIV and AIDS, according to organizers. The fair also will have entertainment and door prizes.
Kasey Poole, spokeswoman for the Chattanooga Hamilton County Health Department, which is participating in the health fair, said outreach "is always important when we work with the community."
She said it is fundamental to educate people about health care services available to them, and interpreters will be available for participants who need them.
"We want to make sure we provide all the information in their language and let them know there are other places where they can receive free health care services," Ms. Jones said.
She said organizers are expecting 250 to 300 people at the fair.
Binational Health Week is an annual weeklong series of health-promotion and health-education activities geared toward migrants and immigrants from Mexico and Central America.

You loving that hate. You just hate the idea of Hispanics getting vaccinations.
Did you ask yourself why?
ILLEGAL ..... we wouldn’t have this debate OTHERWISE WOULD WE .... YHELLOOOOOOOO ?!!!!!!!
Good, no hijacking allowed :-)
Sheesh!
Nobody here has suggested that you not pay for the whole event..
Feel free to exercise your Constitutional right to do so..
LOL
Citizenship, yes. ....In order to pass the test they must comprehend the English language. If they can do that, there is no reason to have interpreters. If one NEEDS an interpreter, then they could not have passed citizenship, which renders them illegal.
I just noticed your legal residency. Sorry, I was speaking of citizen vs non-citizen.
Don’t knock it; it drove him out of his hiding spot to admit his hate.
I could work my mojo on you to to get you to show your true-colors also....
I’m an open book...
LOL! The proverbial nail on the head!...:o)
Quite a thread at this stage. I just posted because I stayed at the Read Hotel last weekend and it was nice. Bigotry deserves no service and criminality deserves no room. :^)
By the way, how do you know I don’t do this daily? For a living, fighting ignorance of hate... like on this thread.
What if I told you, that I make thousands of dollars a month fighting ignorance by shining light on hateful behavior? What if you are so full of hate, you would scoff if someone even suggested it to you on a thread full of a soft hate for Hispanics?
I live it.
From what I have seen, FReepers have no problem whatsoever with welcoming any culture or heritage into our country. Heaven knows, it takes a lot of time, money, work, study, dedication and respect for the USA, for one to become a citizen.
I do see a major resentment for those who try to sneak in the back door and demand (or steal) the rights and entitlements that ‘legalized’ citizens enjoy.
Why would I hate people being vaccinated? I don’t want disease spread thoughout my fellow citizens, LEGAL citizens, that is. Have I asked myself why? No, but okay....
Someone....Why do you want your fellow Americans vaccinated??
NGZ....Ummmm, so they don’t catch and or spread disease.
Someone.... Very good!!!! Now how about all the illegals coming into your country???
NGZ..... Deport them, build a fence to keep more from coming in and start enforcing our laws!
Someone.... Very good!!!! Aren’t you glad you asked “why”??
NGZ.... Why yes, yes I am.
Only? That is a significant number my friend...
JUST SUBMIT AND ADMIT YOUR HATE!!!!
You couldn’t touch what I do. You salivate for threads like these so you can blame everyone else for your failures....
“I have no job because of Hispanics, I have no woman because of Hispanics, I’m going bald because of Hispanics, I can’t afford cable because of Hispanics, my cutlus supreme is broke because of Hispanics”
Always the same wining song.
If it’s in English, yes I could.
