ALBANY - The prosecutor who sent two local Muslim men ensnared in an FBI terror sting to prison is on the short list for a federal judgeship.
Many in the Capital District's growing Muslim community are outraged.
Members of Albany's Muslim Solidarity Committee say they will do everything in their power to ensure Glenn Suddaby doesn't receive the nomination. The activists formed their group after the arrest and conviction of Mohammad Hossain, an Albany pizza shop owner, and Yassin Aref, an Albany imam.
Despite grass roots opposition, Suddaby has at least one pretty big name supporter - U.S. Sen. Charles Schumer.
News that Suddaby, U.S. attorney for the northern district of New York, is being considered by the White House for federal judge doesn't sit well with the people who worship at the Masjid As-Salam Mosque.
"We consider this was a great injustice, really, against Muslims and against the principles on which the U.S. stands, really" Shamshad Ahmad said at the mosque.
Aref used to be the imam at the mosque. But he and Hossain, a fellow mosque member, will spend the next 15 years in prison.
Many in the Islamic community believe it was the work of Suddaby that put them there.
"To hear that this person was nominated based on the entrapment case, I was appalled. Angry and appalled," said May Saffar of the Muslim Solidarity Committee.
Members of the ever-growing Muslim Solidarity Committee hope others in the Capital Region will help them to thwart the nomination. They've even created an online petition they plan on delivering to the Senate Judiciary Committee.
"I have to have hope and I have to have faith. Someone like myself, who is a native of Iraq, I have to see the light at the end of the tunnel," Saffar said.
Suddaby's role in the high-profile terror sting is likely one of the reasons he's in line for judgeship. But that victory, maintain Aref and Hossain supporters, is everyone's loss.
"A person of that record could not be a fair minded judge and giving fair chance and fair rule and good justice to the society," Ahmad said.
Suddaby did not return repeated phone calls asking for participation in this story.
Why is it they want their special religious law implemented but when it is convenient they use our civil law to procure various rights and privileges?
I got yer outrage, right here, Shamshad.
if shumer is for him, i’ll probably side with the turbin boys on this one.
Innocent people need protection from the law.

Since you are in no way involved, and have no input whatsoever into the nominating process of the Federal judiciary , just what might you be talking about, hmm?
Perpetual Outrage
TFB. I’m upset they didn’t clone 1000 copies of him and give each state 20.
If Guiliani became president, you wouldn’t see much of this.
He’d arrest the ones who are complaining, and toss them in the clink - they wouldn’t be seen again.
There are those who say that’s all Rudy is good for, but it is something.
Maybe the better question is why do they get special treatment because of their Religion?
I am outraged that the Muslims are a growing part of any community in the USA>>
Ye Gads... you mean I am in agreement with Schumer on something?
I think I need to go lay down for a little while. I feel dizzy.
He's in.
Excellent! That sounds like a great recommendation to me.
Hope he makes it.
Good God.....
If he would do the same thing with the illegals, I could actually support him ... reluctantly.
IOW, the muzzies are FOR terrorism and the spread of their vile, depraved belief system. They're upset that AMERICANS inflicted AMERICAN justice on their buddies. Tough &$(*&#(@& guys. If you don't like American justice, take a hike.
These guys should be given similar treatment for their obvious support and ties to terrorism. It's all part of their plan to take over the US in bits and pieces.
makes..... blood.... boil.....
