From Ed Morrissey:
The bill condemning Turkey for the Armenian genocide of 1915 has begun to lose support and may not have enough Democrats on board to pass. A group of Democrats will hold a press conference later today asking House leadership to table the motion in light of the disastrous impact it might have on our military efforts in Iraq and our relationship with the one Muslim democracy in the Middle East:
Worried about antagonizing Turkish leaders, House members from both parties have begun to withdraw their support from a resolution supported by the Democratic leadership that would condemn as genocide the mass killings of Armenians nearly a century ago.
Do these Democrats not think of these things before they blunder ahead? Let’s make some noise!
Thank goodness for the rise of internet communications and talk radio to counter the Demodogs stupidity. As little as ten years ago, this type of item would have sailed through a Congress, and Americans would might never have heard about the foolishness -— unless it were to become aware years later that a new war broke out because of some stupid diplomatic error on the part of the US.
This move was one of the most clumsy and stupid political moves ever. Would the Dems have so readily conceived of passing a resolution condemning Germany for genocide? Of course not, Germany is an entirely different nation than it was in 1945, and the modern Republic of Turkey is a far cry from the Ottoman Empire of 1915.
