New Jersey: Clinton 51% Giuliani 40%
Rasmussen Reports ^ | October 16, 2007 | Rasmussen Reports

Posted on 10/16/2007 10:17:02 AM PDT by Kuksool

Hillary Clinton leads Rudy Giuliani 51% to 40% in an early look at the race for New Jersey’s Electoral Votes. A Rasmussen Reports telephone survey finds that Clinton has larger leads over other Republican Presidential hopefuls. She leads Fred Thompson by eighteen points (53% to 35%), John McCain by sixteen (52% to 36%), and Mitt Romney by twenty-four (55% to 41%).

Clinton is viewed favorably by 58% of Garden State voters while Giuliani earns positive reviews from 59%. Fifty percent (50%) offer a positive assessment of both Thompson and McCain while 39% express a favorable opinion of Romney.

Seventy-seven percent (77%) of the state’s voters say it’s at least Somewhat Likely that Democrats will win New Jersey in Election 2008. Only 12% say it’s not likely.

Before that, however, there are state legislative elections featuring corruption and property tax relief as leading issues. Fifty-seven percent (57%) of voters say corruption is the top issue while 36% are more interested in property taxes. However, they don’t have much faith in either political party to address either issue.

Thirty-three percent (33%) say they trust Democrats more on the corruption issue while 29% prefer the GOP. Thirty-three percent (33%) don’t trust either party and 5% are not sure.

So far, I think only Rudy has a shot at taking OH. Last poll here had him up a couple; the poll before that, down one. Fred and Mitt are way down.

Pretty much the ONLY advantage that I see to nominating Giuliani is that he appears to be competitive in Pennsylvania, and the other GOP candidates aren’t. And honestly, that’s not worth putting up a pro-abortion authoritarian that will cause conservatives to stay home/vote third-party in droves. The vaulted GOP GOTV would be seriously hampered, putting states like Ohio, Missouri, and possibly even Virginia in serious danger.

I think the GOP nominee had better set up their campaign headquarters in Columbus, Ohio, maybe buy a second home there. New York, New Jersey are not winnable. The GOP nominee must win Ohio, and Missouri, Virginia as you say. Michigan might be in play but in the end the unions will probably steal it for Hillary.

I am ashamed to be a citizen of New Jersey.

As soon as our child graduates from high school, we’re OUTAHERE.

Well, I live in NY which if you haven't noticed has voted for a Clinton in two, countem, 2 senate elections and two, countem, 2 presidential elections. You think you feel bad? I would move too but I am now retired and can't afford to. It would just cost me too much. So I'm stuck in this liberal cesspool. We do go on vacation as much as we can however!

That’s the New York Mafia that has 5 families. Not that the mafia has a lot of influence over Presidential elections in New York either. Movie and TV view of New York, New Jersey.

They’ll vote for Hillary and then still complain about property taxes. Hello! McFly?

KENTUCKY?

There’s no way Hillary wins Kentucky over Fred. That’s like David Duke winning a mayoral election in Detroit. Something smells.

Well, does Jersey still have good public schools? Florida’s public schools are not good at all.

If I understood the clip on Fox last night NJ is the state with the most Islamist cells and Jihadists. When they strike NJ the Socialists who live there can run and cry into the hem of Hitlery’s pant suit!

NJ is a liberal hotbed...no surprise here.

Ever been to New Jersey? The liberals can have it. (Apologies to any FReepers who are stuck. . .er, who live in NJ.)

The trouble, from an electoral standpoint, is the war. The fact that Rudy is “socially liberal” can’t overcome that liability even in a liberal state. No candidate who is tied to this unpopular war can beat Hillary, wishful thinking to contrary.

Wow! And the Election still a year away, this poll doesn’t mean anything more than Rasmussen wants to see it’s name in a headline. The polll itself isn’t worth spit.

I lived in Augusta briefly during the early ‘70’s. I was in high school at the time (one of four... ugh). It seemed to be a very friendly place, and I would move back there in a heartbeat.

I was thinking of Tennessee, Kentucky, Missouri; that part of the U.S.

As long as there’s some good local dirt tracks for Saturday night entertainment, I’m good to go.

Thanks for the invitation!
