Ann Coulter is Not Helping
American Thinker ^ | October 13, 2007 | Richard Baehr

...The issue with Coulter is not whether she can sell books, but whether she helps or hurts the side of the political debate she claims to support. In my opinion, Coulter has never been a big help to the effort to build a conservative and Republican majority. Her most recent comments on the relationship of Christianity to Judaism, made on the CNBC show " The Big Idea" with Donnie Deutsch on Monday of this week , may prove particularly damaging...

At a time when party affiliation is fraying and a third of Americans consider themselves independent, to build a majority of 50% plus one requires persuasion. Independents will not accept all parts of either party's platform or approach but will choose a candidate for office based on which issues matter to them, and whether one or the other party connects with them on those issues. It is a skill to disagree at times without being disagreeable. Ronald Reagan had it, and it is one of the reasons he became so popular and patched together a large winning coalition . Coulter has clearly decided there is no economic advantage for her in this approach...

How quickly some of our very own conservative friends suck up the Left’s ambush & smear tactics.

He didn't smear her, he criticized her. Not the same thing.

From all the signs, it's going to become very difficult to be a practicing Christian pretty soon.

There is no salvation outside of Christ, and there are no exceptions to that dogma. If that offends Jews, so be it.

The Jewish religion is perfect. Too perfect for flawed humans. That is why Jesus came.

Leftists are not going to “convert” with outside help, as David Horowitz knows, it a conversion from liberalism must come from within...we don’t need any more “moderates’, and I agree with Ann Coulter’s assessment of “Independents” as a class of people who are either so morally or mentally weak that they are unable or unwilling to choose sides.

I have nothing but contempt for people who are genuine “Independents”.

I am classified as such in Massachusetts due to my desire to vote whatever way I wish in primary elections (there are often no Republican candidates, and I wish to cast my vote against the most liberal variety of politician on occasion)

She did NOT say Jews "need" to be perfected.

Read.

There are way too many Republicans that do not understand this simple fact.

You are a least correct in your assessment that you would not be considered a Christian, for you are not. You have created your own religion.

So you believe proselytizing Christians are A-holes. Well, that’s your right but remember that Christianity is a proselytizing religion. Those who truly believe not only feel that it is a loving thing to save souls but they are also required as part of their obligation as Christians to save souls.

It’s not healthy for the Republican Party to distance itself from Christians.

It’s instructive to glance the original poster’s forum contributions where you can see his only purpose here at Free Republic is to trash Ann Coulter, promote toilet humor television and mock Christ through imagery.

But I have to admit that one of things I like most about Ann is how she offends liberals.

I admit, I love watching her offend liberals. But I hate watching her offend the undecided.

She’s brought no one over to our side with her overly bombastic style.

You don't know that. You're just blowing smoke out your a&&.

I know may who are Aholes.
And degrading someone to ‘save’ them is borderline BDSM behavior (which is why I think some folks join churches...they hate themselves and the church reinforces the self-loathing).

Which means while some would find AC’s behavior ‘good’, many find it revolting.

As for Republicans and Christianity, erm, so basically you’re saying I’m not welcome to the party?

Good move hun.

"Which necessarily means that you don't respect Christianity."

Nope never said that. But, nice try. I conduct myself with respect for others. I expect them to treat me with the same level of respect. Since I would never dream of attempting to convert them, I simply ask them to pay me the same courtesy.

See, that refers to a person, not to their religion. Therefore, I could not, and did not, disrespect their religion. Oh, and for the record, I would never dream of referring to someone as somehow not perfect because they aren't Jewish.

But you already know this.

"Off limits to what? Speech?"

Hmmm, no. Off limits to insults...having someone tell me that Jews need to be perfected, is insulting because it insinuates that Jews are inferior. Tap dance to that one.

"Well, historically speaking Jews were great evangelists up until the Romans told them it was either stop evangelizing or they cut heads off. But Christians evangelize, a simple no thanks I have my own faith is probably a better answer than the outrage you project."

Until the Romans told us... I see. Now back to the issue at hand, ie. Ann Coulter. Don't let your mind wander...stay with me here.

I make it much simpler, "Sir/ Madam, confine yourself to your religion as I am confining myself to mine". I hope that's acceptable.

"Certainly, I'm afraid that my outrage and offended genes are malfunctioning. I'm checking with you to find out if they are functioning correctly. Should I be outraged?"

Let see....

"Should I be outraged that Jews vote overwhelmingly democrat while Israel's foremost supporters in America, aside from Jewish folk, are Christians?"

So since "Jews vote overwhelmingly democrat" we should accept Ann Coulter's insulting Jews as inferior to Christians?

Since "Jews vote overwhelmingly democrat" they deserve to be insulted?

Since "Jews vote overwhelmingly democrat" they have no right to be offended by an insult to their religion?

Sorry to hear that your outrage and offended genes are malfunctioning, but, truthfully, only you can answer these questions. It comes down to right and wrong. Is your support for Israel conditional, or based on the concept of right and wrong?

Tell ya what,
go somewhere where there are folks working hard, earning a living in an honest way and clearly have values you respect. People you think would vote in a conservative manner.

Ask them what they think of AC.

I’ve done it-— they say my eyebrows will grow back in a few weeks.

The Apostle Paul called the Church, "The Israel of God." (Galatians 6:16) He says very clearly in Romans 9:

For not all who are descended from Israel are Israel. 7 Nor because they are his descendants are they all Abraham's children. On the contrary, "It is through Isaac that your offspring will be reckoned." 8 In other words, it is not the natural children who are God's children, but it is the children of the promise who are regarded as Abraham's offspring.

The Apostle Paul said earlier in Romans 2:

Romans 2:28 A man is not a Jew if he is only one outwardly, nor is circumcision merely outward and physical. 29 No, a man is a Jew if he is one inwardly; and circumcision is circumcision of the heart, by the Spirit, not by the written code. Such a man's praise is not from men, but from God.

That is what Ann was referring to. She did nothing more than express extremely common Christian scripture and doctrine.

Ann's underestimated the bibilical illiteracy of America.

Enjoy your anger over this nonsense. If not feigned, your outrage and disgust are terribly misspent. While I think Ann’s theological understanding leaves much to be desired, there was nothing she said that justifies a rise in your blood pressure.

Hey sparkey!

Wake up!

The point is that we wonder why more Jews aren't considering voting GOP. They look at Jesse Jackson referring to NYC as Hymietown, and Ann Coulter who says that Jews need to be perfected.....Why should they change?
