Contractor: C C Meyers: Same guy that rebuilt the Santa Monica Freeway after the 1994 quake wiped it out. He also built the Lowe’s Speedway in Charlotte used for NASCAR races.
He’s a hell of a guy- Goes in and OVERBUILDS so that he doesn’t have to piddle around with the Cal-Trans engineers over a 1/4 inch of something here or there. He throws massive numbers of workers and larger re-bar and more concrete and just GETS IT DONE.
I think it was only 19 days or so that he repaired the 580/880 intersection that collapsed in SF.

It’s been raining for hours. It’s all wet, and probably cannot get any fires started or pushed.
For those that are wondering what’s still burning in there - there’s a fuel tanker at the core of the fire, and of course there’s all the fuel from the other crashed trucks, the rubber tires on said trucks (good luck putting those out), the resin for the carbon fiber truck noses (some modern rigs have the cab and front constructed out of carbon fiber to reduce weight), the fiberglas of the other trucks... There’s a LOT to burn in there.

I doubt they can divert traffic that way for long. The actual interchanges are all bridges and flyaway ramps & stuff. The transition from southbound I-5 to northbound SR-14 makes me really nervous on a good day. I hate that thing.
Radio says CHP has closed the on-ramps from McBean, Lyons, Magic Mountain Pkwy, & Valencia Blvd. Getting around Valencia today must be a real treat.

Yup. And because he gets the job done so fast, he gets a massive bonus for early completion - which more than pays for the extra cost involved in making a structure 2 or 3 times as strong as CalTrans wanted it.
Oh yeah, just a little while ago people were driving the wrong way on the 5 all the way up at Magic Mtn Parkway....it is insanity.
And the people they interview are complaining that the info isnt in spanish. or it isnt being read to them...as a lot of our guests from the south cant read espanol either.
