KNX reporter says the tunnel is tilted north to south, effectively creating a chimney effect. All the smoke (and carbon monoxide) is funneling out the higher end, allowing firefighters to start extracting debris from the other side. He said they're pulling out engines... shrapnel... twisted metal... tires... and that there is lettuce everywhere.

For those that are wondering what’s still burning in there - there’s a fuel tanker at the core of the fire, and of course there’s all the fuel from the other crashed trucks, the rubber tires on said trucks (good luck putting those out), the resin for the carbon fiber truck noses (some modern rigs have the cab and front constructed out of carbon fiber to reduce weight), the fiberglas of the other trucks... There’s a LOT to burn in there.
