CLEVELAND - A gunman opened fire in a high school on Wednesday, and a witness said he saw three people taken out on stretchers.

Ronnell Jackson, 15, said he saw a shooter running down a hall at SuccessTech Academy.

"He was about to shoot me but I got out just in time," he said. "He was aiming at me I got out just in time."

Another student, Doneisha LeVert, said she heard the principal say "Code Blue" over the public address system, and the students started running. She said she hid in a closet with some of her friends.

Tammy Mundy, 38, who has a son and daughter at the school, told The Plain Dealer of Cleveland that her daughter called when the shooting started.

"She said, 'Mom they're shooting in here, kids are running out, I'm hiding in the closet,'" Mundy told the newspaper.

Then she called her 18-year-old son, Darnell Rodgers, on his cell phone, and he told her he had been shot in the arm.

"He said, 'Mom I got shot,'" Mundy told the newspaper.

one parent, no values, a government that tells you your own country is crap, you and your society is the evil of the world.

Anything else you need?

Also that shooter was 14! How does one get an F the world ‘tude at that age???!!!

I teach in an urban school. Such attitudes are fairly common in 4th grade and above, and not at all uncommon earlier. In many areas it's the rule rather than the exception.

Schools can keep God and prayer from the classroom but not violence.

Wonder when the anti-death penalty crowd is going to speak up to say that it is wrong to kill a juvenile shooter.

I’ve been watching the live feed. They are interviewing students. I feel sorry for them. They sound so ignorant. They speak a language I’m not familiar with.

Why? Economically suppressed? Parents who don’t care leading to gangs replacing family? All or none of these?

Many inner-city kids cannot speak English and do not know any foreign tongues.

In other words, they are fluent in no languages.

Bernie Shaw crossed that Rubicon a decade ago when he said the word live on "Inside Politics." He said he was justified because he was quoting somebody.

Take your pick:

Mom doesn't care. Or maybe mom cares but works 3 jobs and has no time. Either way, you spend most of your time in an area where those who work hard and play by the rules are constantly struggling, while drug dealers and gangbangers are seemingly living it up.

The most heartbreaking are the kids whose parents desperately want them to do better than they did, but don't have enough education themselves to know what to do. There just aren't enough role models available in these areas. Kids literally don't know what success is supposed to look like. They don't know how to behave in a normal civilized setting because it goes completely against what they live in every moment they're outside of school.

Many have never seen the world outside of the few blocks around their house. They don't even know what opportunities are available just a half mile away. All they see is death, and a system which rewards sloth and punishes work.

I just heard a radio report that said that this is an ‘alternative’ school, which means either it is a school where problem children in the district are sent to get them out of the mainstream classrooms, or else the kids are dropouts who are trying to get their GED or something. “At risk” kids.
