humblegunner has been in the hospital since last Wednesday, October 3.
He has been extremely ill and today, after four days of antibiotics and the removal of a large amount of fluid from the area surrounding his right lung, he is finally beginning to feel better. His doctors have said that he will be hospitalized for several more days.
Glad to hear you are getting better. If the hospital food is getting you down, let Eaker or pax know and I’ll send you some New Mexico salsa.
He is still an ornery SOB, just not as mobile!
;<)
Thanks for the update and hopeful news...prayers continue.
Well THAT sucks. Get better Gunner!
Sorry to hear about poor Humble. Glad to hear he is feeling better, that is great news. Sending prayers and hugs your way! Get well soon!
Thanks for the updates and pings.
Keep an eye on him.People who hate doctors seem to be the sickest.
(That’s not a threat, just an observation, HG. Sort of like the Chicken and the egg - who knows which came first?)

Oh well at least HG will get a chance to see that many doctors and nurses are quite fine folks,,,he might even take a shining to a few...
Been thinking about HG all day...I hope he is feeling really chipper soon...miss the old coots posts...HEY I know, let's get him an AM radio so he can listen to RUSH! LOL!!!
Hey...do you still have your Mini???
Can you ping your list with this update?
I went to see humble today. He looks and sounds wonderful!!! This is the best I have seen him in a week ~ I am so thrilled. He should be out of the ICU tomorrow, and then it is back to a regular room. He said the ICU was really a torture chamber. The drainage of his lungs is slow, which means there is not much there to drain.
If the docs told him what they did in surgery he does not remember. I explained what all they did to him; his only comment was he hoped they sprayed his lungs with Lysol because that kills germs on contact.
Good news! Thanks Mom.
Great news mom.
Lysol??? Good grief, at least they could have used some Basil Hayden’s or even Black Jack.
LOL. Humble home remedy?
Praying that the professional remedy works even better to kill those germs, and that he is well soon.
Glad to hear that he has improved enough to be leaving ICU
Thanks Jesus for prayers answered...
Cheers!
I must begin by sharing an incredibly thoughtful deed done by a dear FReeper.
I just got home from visiting humble and had sat at my computer to finish the ping list for this thread (which was taking a lot of time last night) and then to post an update and respond to posts. The following is the body of the FReepmail I found in my mailbox from LucyJo:
Here is a list of all of the folks who have posted to humblegunners prayer thread through post 319. Hope it is helpful to you. I know what its like to have someone sick in the hospital, and trying to get everything done that needs doing!God bless his mom, and all loved ones and friends. Praying that he is well soon.
Following it was a huge ping list which she compiled today.
What an incredibly thoughtful and helpful thing to do. I'm sitting here with tears in my eyes.
I don't know what to say or how to thank you, LucyJo.
*huge hug!*

humble update, continued again:
When I visited him he looked great, too. He was in fine form, trying to boss me around and then, when I would remind him that doesn't work, telling me how nice I am to come and visit him and then asking nicely for whatever he wanted me to do.
The first thing he asked for was his cap that he always has on in photos. He's got so many tubes coming out of him that he looks like some kind of crazy octopus with a red baseball cap back on top. Additionally, he is now sporting a full beard, of which he is very proud.
I took a copy of this thread to post #331, which he had read to post #144 a couple of days ago. As soon as he had put on his cap, he read it. About halfway through he stopped and said, "The whole country's praying for me."
Then he continued reading for a couple of minutes, stopped again and said, "They're praying for my family: they're praying for themselves because they are my family."
For any of you who doubted, that's a glimpse into the "heart of gold part." ;-)
When I asked him if they had determined the specific type of infection he had, he told me that his doctors had asked two specialists to look at his case. They did and they have no idea what critter is causing this. They've sent his information to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta for analysis.
humble just can't do things the simple way, can he?
He listens to Rush every day.
I think he likes it.
Thanks for the update! HG is still in our prayers. And a special thanks to you LucyJo. You’re are a fine FReeper indeed!

Truly, you can’t imagine how much I appreciate what LucyJo did...
That is teh awesomeness! Tell him I’ll get all the smelly Rennie hippies a-prayin’ for him this weekend.
If that doesn’t get him out of bed, it’s gonna take some bamboo splinters under his toenails.
