Paul Won't Condemn Obama on Flag Pin
ABC News ^ | October 5, 2007 | Teddy Davis

Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul said Friday that he would not condemn Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., for dropping his American flag lapel pin in the wake of the Iraq war.

"A lot of people might condemn him," said Paul, "I'm neither going to condemn him nor praise him because I don't know his inner motivation."

"He may be very, very sincere in what he is saying," he added.

Paul, who, like Obama, opposed the Iraq war before it began, made his comments to ABC News two days after the Illinois Democrat told ABC's affiliate in Cedar rapids that he stopped wearing an American flag lapel pin in the run-up to the Iraq war because he believed the pin had become a "substitute" for "true patriotism."

“I not only question their patriotism, I dispute it.”

Another outstanding truism!

I’ll bet he doesn’t even own a flag to fly in the wind. Obama is a fake and not sincere. He took it off because he got to much flak in the crowds he hangs out and he couldn’t deal with the comments he got.

Why would you say such an ignorant dumbass thing? Libertarians are not anarchists nor are they libertines. Libertarians are for the rule of law, and liberty means having the freedom to undertake things that are good and right-—not doing whatever you want. Why the big chip on your shoulder?

It is not the pin itself where his anti Americanism lies... it is in his statement, “I think that I can best show Americans my patriotism by telling them what I think WILL make America a great country”.

Are we not the GREATEST NATION on Earth? Of course we are... and he infers by his words that we are something less than that now. I despise this islamic evilcrat!

I don’t give a rats ass if Obama wears a flag pin. He doesn’t have to unless he wants to, and means it. He may be more honest by shedding it.

Maybe it embarrassed him wearing it when he whores himself by talking like a loser.

Obama Hussein can wear the pin or not wear the pin. It’s a free country, but who is he to question the patriotism of those who DO wear the pin?

Keep in mind Baraboo, is just an hour North of Madison. Madison’s wingnut territory, and it extends out from there. Not to say that everyone who lives in the general area is a wingnut (I can speak on authority-we had a permanent travel trailer midway between the two cities for weekend summer fun). But Baraboo is an attraction to them for various reasons.

It’s not surprising to see a bunch of them there, up from Madison, and I’m sure the Paulettes saw it as a grand opportunity to ‘win’ some of their attention. It’s just another proof that they’re courting the wingnut crowd.

Media acceptance will come if he begins to rise in the polls beyond his present standing (and not just a slight tick, either). I have trouble seeing that happening. As for the primaries, most states hold private primaries where voters have to vote as registered. While the Paulistas are promoting party in such states as New Hampshire before the state deadline ends, I’m not sure how much affect this would have. But the wingnuts and naive libertarians are all the base he’ll likely have going into them. I just don’t see that being sufficient to sway the primaries.

“Ron Paul is a nut case in the vein of Ross Perot.”

I classify him more along the lines of a Lyndon LaRouche.

Paul is worse than LaRouche! Isn’t there some method to kick him out of the GOP? He’s more damaging to GOP and America than the RINOs.

If Paul is that clueless then he doesnt deserve to be President by virtue of total stupidity. As for Obama, it
is a protest thing, anybody can see that—except Ron Paul

Any politician who will not wear a American flag lapel pin should resign immediately.

And I'm sure every good American on these boards wears a flag pin faithfully every single day......

If they don't they should be forced to leave the country.
Makes sense to me.

Libertarians are for the rule of law, and liberty means having the freedom to undertake things that are good and right-—not doing whatever you want.

This is a joke right?

It's at least one of the most creative definitions Libertarian I've heard in a long time.

To bad it's not believable.

"I'm neither going to condemn him nor praise him because I don't know his inner motivation."

In other words, it's none of Paul's business. He's got his own campaign to run, he's not going to give a damn about what a socialist little noob like Obama does.

Geez Louise - Paul could fart and you guys will post a 500+ reply thread denouncing him for it.

Pandering to the moonbat base, plain and simple.

Pandering, how? He issued a general statement along the lines of who-fricking-cares.

If other candidates are worrying about whether or not Obama is wearing a flag lapel, they got issues. Focus on your own campaign and stop worrying about others.

“Is is completely disrespectful and a political stunt to use the flag as a political statement while we have men and women in uniform in harms way.”

I think that’s his point too. Being unpatriotic and wearing a flag doesn’t make you patriotic and vice versa. It’s a meaningless gesture in the great scheme of things.
