Elizabeth [Edwards] questions Limbaugh's draft deferment
Politico ^ | 10/4/07 | Ben Smith

Posted on 10/04/2007 1:26:54 PM PDT by Roberts

An Air America producer just sent over some transcript from an interview their Richard Greene (not our Richard Greene) conducted with Elizabeth Edwards, in which she questioned Rush Limbaugh's Vietnam exemption:

My classmates went to Vietnam, he did not. He was 4F. He had a medical disability, the same medical disability that probably should have stopped him from spending a lifetime in a radio announcer’s chair; but it is true, isn’t it? If he has an inoperable position that allows him not to serve, presumably it should not allow him to sit for long periods of time the way he does. I think this is a serious enough offense for the people who fund him, who buy ads and allow him to be on the air, need to be asked if this is what they really stand for, do they think it is alright for someone who has never served to denigrate the men and women who have simply because they are expressing an opinion. Frankly, I thought that is what we are fighting for.

In the interview, Edwards also suggested that John Kerry shouldn't have conceded when he did in 2004.

RG: Were you disappointed that Senator Kerry conceded as quickly as he did?

EE: I was very disappointed, not just because we did not count the votes, but because we promised people that if they stood in line and fought for the right to vote, that we would fight with them. And I was very disappointed that the decision was made by the campaign, over John’s objection, not to fight.

the nauseating attack-victim tactic again
send out a cancer patient to attack someone

Ann Coulter was right on the money when she pointed out the tactic. I know Ann got a lot of flack for the way she held out the four (?) 9-11 widows as examples of this tactic, but it's sickening how often the Left trots out an "untouchable" to do their dirty work.

That's quite a presumption.

I think this is a serious enough offense for the people who fund him,

The advertisers do not "fund" him. He makes them big stacks of cash, even if he charges confiscatory ad rates.

I question Bill Clinton’s draft deferment, since he lied to his draft board to get it. And that’s an historical fact.

According to a recent column, the military has estimated that only about 20 percent of the draft-age population is physically and mentally able to serve in the military.

People get bumped for all kinds of things. One of my teachers, who is healthy and in his sixties, got bumped for having poor circulation. A military doctor took one look at his feet and said “forget it.” There’s no arguing the point—it just happens.

Lots of people who got rejected for health reasons went on to lead normal lives. Howard Dean had his back injury and went skiing. Jack Kemp had bad knees and went on to play football. As one military expert said (approximately) “you can always stop the football game if someone’s knees buckle. But you can’t stop a battle for that reason.”

So did Mr. Edwards ever serve in the military? I don’t remember that he ever did. Did Mrs. Edwards ever serve? I think not.

I doubt it. Having helmet hair would have killed him.

The Jersey Girls, widows of 9/11 victims who were paraded out to bash Bush and considered untouchable for the things they said simply because they lost spouses. Cindy Sheehan also uses this strategy quite a bit. Lizzie is just the latest.

Yeah, why don’t you do that, lady? Another completely worthless waste of time. Up there with Reid condemning Limbaugh for something Limbaugh didn’t do.
