A Bonners Ferry woman says she was humiliated when security guards at the federal courthouse in Coeur d'Alene told her she'd have to remove her underwire bra to get inside.
Lori Plato said she was going into the courthouse for a court hearing Sept. 20 when the metal detector went off as she passed through security.
"When I walked through, the gentleman said, "'Do you have an underwire bra on?'." Plato said. "I said, 'Yeah.' He said, 'You have to remove it.' "
But there was nowhere private to remove her bra, she said. The guards suggested she go out to her car to do it.
Instead, Plato who describes herself as "not petite" said she removed her bra while her husband tried to shield her from view of others in the crowded lobby by holding up his coat.
She said she had to put the bra on a conveyor belt and send it through an x-ray machine.
"After I got through the metal detector and waited for my bra to come through the conveyor belt, one of the security guards said, "'That's a girl,'" Plato said. She thought the guard was making fun of her.
The U.S. Marshal's Service, which supervises security at the courthouse, said Plato was given options and chose not to exercise them. She was told she could have gone to her car or to a neighboring business to remove the bra, U.S. Marshal Patrick McDonald said.
"She's inflating it," McDonald said.
Haha!
U.S. Marshal Patrick McDonald
“She’s inflating it,” McDonald said.
Good grief - he’s gonna be looking for a new job!
No pics?
I know there’s plenty of fun being made here about this subject, but there’s no reason for them to insist she remove her bra. This would indeed be humiliating to a woman. The security guard would surely have a device to check the properties of the undergarment.
In a discussion of what postal facilities ought to look like and what kind of comforts they might have he recommended that the Post Office Department eliminate restrooms since the employees could just "go down the street to a gas station just about anywhere".
Henry didn't get fired but you'll notice he isn't forgotten. Looks like he has a first cousin guarding courthouses these days.
Women can take them off and never show an inch of skin. We shouldn’t have to on demand though.
She wasn't a member of "breasts, not bombs", was she?
If so, somebody's toes were at risk!
You never know, she may have had a small bottle of liquid, or even a pair of nail clippers, hidden in there!
Every time she walks through it, the alarm sounds, and she's asked to remove another article of clothing.
Pretty soon she's down to just her bra and a few other things and the airport screeners (played by Kevin Nealon, Dana Carvey and Rob Schneider) are saying stuff to her like, "Now, arch your back for more security."
I don't think it's on YouTube or else I'd post it. It's a classic.
Hm. maybe if they’re members of the itty bitty committee, but not if they aren’t petite in that way.
The U.S. Marshals make the FBI look bright.
that guard ought to be glad that woman wasnt me.
Last year going through Manchester airport in England, I got pull from line and patted down because of an underwire bra. The security people were polite and respectful.
There is no excuse for the behavior of the guard and no reason she should have had to remove her bra.
I would have told him if he removed his jock seeing how he must have reinforced it, I would then remove my bra.
Absolutely! THis is ridiculous!!
I 100% agree, just having a little fun.
If that were the case, and she could pass the ‘can test’ then the bottle of liquid and clippers would still be hidden. Knowwhatimean?
