A Bonners Ferry woman says she was humiliated when security guards at the federal courthouse in Coeur d'Alene told her she'd have to remove her underwire bra to get inside.
Lori Plato said she was going into the courthouse for a court hearing Sept. 20 when the metal detector went off as she passed through security.
"When I walked through, the gentleman said, "'Do you have an underwire bra on?'." Plato said. "I said, 'Yeah.' He said, 'You have to remove it.' "
But there was nowhere private to remove her bra, she said. The guards suggested she go out to her car to do it.
Instead, Plato — who describes herself as "not petite" — said she removed her bra while her husband tried to shield her from view of others in the crowded lobby by holding up his coat.
She said she had to put the bra on a conveyor belt and send it through an x-ray machine.
"After I got through the metal detector and waited for my bra to come through the conveyor belt, one of the security guards said, "'That's a girl,'" Plato said. She thought the guard was making fun of her.
The U.S. Marshal's Service, which supervises security at the courthouse, said Plato was given options and chose not to exercise them. She was told she could have gone to her car or to a neighboring business to remove the bra, U.S. Marshal Patrick McDonald said.
"She's inflating it," McDonald said.

My daughter has two stainless steel bars in her back, but when the surgeon put them in he removed several ribs, ground them up and covered the bars. Although it hasn’t yet been tested, he seemed to think that she wouldn’t set off a metal detector. After hearing this, I’m not so sure.
A mere technicality. You're talking airport security, women, and bras. It's got TSA written all over it.

I won this argument at a county courthouse using the following:
Guard: Place you items on the conveyor.
Me: Where is your search warrant?
Guard: We don't need one as we have been doing this for years.
Me: Well then you have been violating the 4th amendment for years.
Guard: I cannot let you pass without being searched.
Me: Then you have to inform the head of the jury duty system that you are preventing me from entering.
Guard: Why don't you do what I do when I get a Jury Summons, just tear it up?
Me: Because, unlike you, I believe in obeying the law.
Guard: Go on through.

If she was hiding the gun in her bra - and her breasts were large - even without the bra she could still hide the gun *under* her breast.
Depends on the type of wine glass I suppose. That, and personal preference.

Unless this woman is an arab, forcing her to remove her bra was politically correct nonsense.
What happened? Well, people got fat. Especially women. And their breasts grew to rival the size of their heads. Nowdays you’d have to look in a junior high to find boobs that small.
