“What happens if you have a plate in your head? I have 4 of them since june and lotsa screws...havn’t had to walk through a metal detector yet though.”

My daughter has two stainless steel bars in her back, but when the surgeon put them in he removed several ribs, ground them up and covered the bars. Although it hasn’t yet been tested, he seemed to think that she wouldn’t set off a metal detector. After hearing this, I’m not so sure.

I know that certain grades of stainless are nonmagnetic. I dont’ know how metal detectors work, but if they work on a principle of magnetism, then it is possible that implanted plates and pins and bars may not set off airport metal detectors.

I guess you’ll have to take your head off, before you can go through. You can take it off in your car though.
