O.J. Simpson ordered to surrender Rolex

SANTA MONICA, Calif. - O.J. Simpson must hand over a Rolex watch and other assets to satisfy a civil judgment that found him liable for the deaths of his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ron Goldman, a judge ruled Tuesday.

Any future royalties from a sports video game featuring Simpson also must be delivered to Goldman's father, Fred Goldman, Superior Court Judge Gerald Rosenberg ruled.

Simpson must also surrender any of the disputed memorabilia items recently seized by Las Vegas authorities that are found to be legally his.

The items would then be auctioned by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department and the money they bring in given to Goldman. His attorney David Cook estimated the watch's value between $5,000 and more than $20,000.

Simpson attorney Ronald Slates said his client had already handed the watch over to him and he planned to give it to Goldman's lawyers Tuesday afternoon. He questioned, however, whether it's a real Rolex.

"Know any Rolex watches that sell for 125 bucks?" he asked, adding that's what Simpson told him he paid for it. The lawyer acknowledged, however, that if it is fake, "it's a pretty good copy."

The court order specifies a "Submariner Rolex Watch" that was identified in a photograph.

Slates said Simpson can't hand over the memorabilia that Las Vegas police seized when they arrested him on robbery, kidnapping and other charges last month because those items aren't in his possession.

Cook agreed that was true, but said the judge's order requires that if Simpson ever does acquire the items he says are his he must turn them over. They include footballs, jerseys and other things the former football star says were stolen from him.

Slate said he doesn't represent the company that was paid for marketing the video game Simpson appears in but, in any case, he isn't sure there will ever be any future royalty payments.

In 1995, Simpson was acquitted in a criminal trial of charges that he murdered his ex-wife and Ron Goldman. The 1997 civil judgment resulted from the trial of a lawsuit against Simpson.

This is pretty funny. OJ shows up at a court appearance in Vegas and is spotted wearing the Rolex. Then Fred Goldman lays claim to it. However, it wouldn't surprise me a bit if OJ tries to substitute a fake Rolex for the real one to hand over.

I just hope Fred Goldman keeps stripping OJ of all his assets. It's got to be KILLING OJ to have to hand over money and assets to Goldman.

O.J. went from being a Rolex man to being a Seiko man. His sense of timing will be more accurate from now on.

"...it wouldn't surprise me a bit if OJ tries to substitute a fake Rolex for the real one..."

It should be easy to ID the real one...I understand the left hand had received a deep cut some time back in '94 ;-)

Do you suppose blood could be hiding within the links of the bracelet?

I had a thought when OJ posted bond. Why couldn’t the Goldman’s ask to have OJ’s bond returned them when he shows for court?

Afterall from the government’s point of view, OJ’s bond is his money. If OJ hired a bond company, then technically the bail bond company loaned the money to OJ and he posted it with the government. Thus rather than return that money to OJ, the government should return it to the Goldman family.

It is the bond company’s problem that they have a loan out to OJ, not the government in Las Vegas or the Goldman’s. Let the bond company collect the money from OJ. And as an added benefit, OJ might find it harder to get someone to post bond for him.

OJ gets $25K/month from his NFL pension, which is beyond the court's reach. That's plenty of Rolexes and a lot of golf. Getting a job would be out of the question, of course, since Goldman would yank his paycheck.

Indeed. Rolexes are lousy watches. All that Swiss chronometer hype is bunk. I've got a solar powered Casio that tunes in WWVB to set itself every morning. Keeps perfect time. $130, with titanium band.

Frankly, I think these civil liability rulings on the top of a criminal prosecution are bullshit. Pick one or the other, not both.

I caught the last few seconds of a call on a sports talk show a week or so ago, and if I heard what I think I heard, some guy — possibly a hotel employee — claimed that OJ’s gig is to check into a hotel, immediately start doing a cash business in autographs out of his room (apparently there are tons of idiots willing to pay OJ stupid amounts of money to autograph stuff; how they hear about his “signings” I did not hear), and pocket thousands before the hotel knows what’s going on and shuts him down. Seems improbable, but if true, would explain his apparent access to money that he keeps out of the hands of Fred Goldman.

What would you do as a Father if you reasonably knew someone murdered your son or daughter..

Sue them for money?

They are in no wise any better than Simpson.

Fred Goldman couldn't get justice in the criminal trial due to that dopey jury. So he got the next best thing which was a civil court order to strip OJ of his assets. No better than Simpson? You gotta be kidding!

Someone who sues to get the only justice he can after his son’s murderer walks away Scot-free is no better than the man who almost decapitated his innocent son?
Seriously?

Fine. Give Goldman the watch, and take $125 off the judgment.

This has to be the most tastless, ignorant response I have yet to see posted on FR.
