A boy of 12 suffers from so many allergies that he is able to eat only five foods.
Tyler Savage is violently ill every time he is given dishes containing dairy products or wheat, gluten, eggs, lactose and soya.
The sole foods he is allowed are chicken, carrots, grapes, potatoes and apples.
To help him survive, minerals and vitamins are pumped directly into his stomach through a tube.
Tyler started to fall ill at the age of six when even a morsel of food would leave him writhing in agony from sickness and diarrhoea.
His mother, Lynne Savage, 43, said: "We asked for help but kept being told that he was suffering from a stomach infection. As a result his weight dropped drastically.
"He ran out of energy really quickly and couldn't do the things other children were doing. He just seemed to be getting worse and worse.
"It's been a real struggle. We didn't know what to do."
Tyler - from Earls Colne in Essex - was seen by a paediatrician at Chelmsford's St John's Hospital and had his appendix removed in December 2005.
Although the operation was a success it failed to solve the problem and he was referred to Colchester General Hospital for further tests and treatment.
That shed no light on the mystery illness and in April last year Tyler was sent to Great Ormond Street Hospital in London for checks on his stomach and bowels.
The tests led to a diagnosis of eosinophilic enteropathy, a rare and condition in which the intestines produce too many white blood cells.
These act as a miniature immune system and attack food passing through the gut to the stomach.
The condition saw Tyler's weight drop to barely three stone.
"He was becoming malnourished," said Mrs Savage, a married mother-of-three and housewife.
At first, Tyler was fitted with a nose tube to help get food direct to his stomach, bypassing the rogue blood cells in his gut.
Then, this May, he had a tube inserted into his stomach allowing him to be fed for up to ten hours through the night.
"Even though this will continue for the foreseeable future, it is a godsend," said Mrs Savage.
"Last year he was only at school for about ten days, but in the first two weeks of this new term he's only missed one day.
"We've got a long way to go but at least we're now getting some answers."
In the day, Tyler, whose father, David, 60, is an engineer, can eat the five foods he is not allergic to.

Do we go for the field goal and the tie, in hopes of sending the game into overtime?
Or, do we run a play and go for the touchdown and the win?
Welcome to the debate within the pro-life movement between those who support the National Right to Life and their desire to kick the field goal of keeping abortion safe, legal, and rare until a more opportune time to challenge Roe, and those who support the Thomas More Law Center who want to go for the touchdownand the winof ending abortion on demand through all three trimesters now.

It is unclear how immunity limits hookworm infection. Australian researchers, using capsule and conventional gastrointestinal endoscopy in volunteers inoculated with Necator americanus, have reported that virtually all larvae reach the intestine within six weeks. Unlike the neutral response surrounding resident hookworms, newly arrived adults provoke an eosinophilic enteropathy. This allergic reaction curtails the attachment of hookworms and accompanies the passage of additional worms as they are expelled from the proximal small intestine.
Italian courts took a different tack than did Judge George Greer in Florida, with a complicit judiciary system. This article by Steven Ertelt is in a thread by wagglebee.

Milan, Italy (LifeNews.com) -- An Italian court has denied a request by a disabled woman's father to remove her feeding tube and authorize her death by starvation and dehydration. Eluana Englaro has been a coma for 15 years after an automobile accident seriously injured her and, this year, her father asked a Milan court for permission to remove her feeding tube.
This isn't the first time Englaro's case had been in court.
In April 2005, the Italian Supreme Court confirmed a lower court ruling to keep her feeding tube in place.
That case had also been brought by Englaro's father, who believes that she would have preferred to die. The court rejected the argument because there was no specific evidence on Englaro's views of life and death.
In addition, the court's opinion stated that to remove the tube required, "valuations of life and death that are rooted in concepts of an ethical or religious nature, which are extrajudicial."
The Italian case has drawn comparisons to that of Terri Schiavo, the disabled American woman whose ex-husband won permission from the court to take her life.
It also hearkens to Piergiorgio Welby, a euthanasia activist afflicted with muscular-dystrophy who had a doctor kill him in a euthanasia bid that is still under investigation.

Look what is happening in Clearwater!
This marine's mom is fighting for guardianship so he can get care but the father wants independent care. Looky who is giving advice! Yes, it is none other than George Felos. And, they are going before a Pinellas Judge.
As we may recall George Felons is one of a select crowd still roaming the dark alleys like Tiller the Killer and Jack the Dripper. Death is the work of his life and Clearwater is familiar territory for his passion. Moms hide your sons!
..........................
CLEARWATER - The young Marine severely injured in a car accident involving wrestler Hulk Hogan's son will need lifelong care and at best will only be able to open and close his eyes periodically, according to court documents.
John Graziano's mother is petitioning a Pinellas County judge to allow her to assume guardianship of her 22-year-old son, who is in critical condition at Bayfront Medical Center. A hearing is set for Wednesday.
~Snip~
Graziano's father, who is estranged from his wife, is contesting her application. Edward Graziano is seeking an independent guardian for his son, according to his attorney, Steven Hearn.
~Snip~
An incapacitated person doesn't necessarily need a guardian, said George Felos, the Dunedin lawyer who represented Michael Schiavo, the husband of Terri Schiavo.
"The law prefers that people plan for their own affairs so the court doesn't have to be involved to take care of the affairs of an incapacitated person," Felos said.

Will this marine be saved from the grim reapers?
Post above.
Actually it is all couched somewhat differently. I am not yet sure what they mean here. Do they really want politicians to see the science behind those buzzwords? I am burning with curiosity on their perspectives.
For students, the ST may seem like a silly extra distribution requirement, but down the road it could have a significant impact. As a top university, Princeton fields strong science departments and a strong engineering school. Not all students get a taste of these underused resources, but I think it's important that all Princeton students take a strong science course so they can carry it to whatever they do. This especially applies to future leaders in business and politics. When we look at issues such as global warming, stem cells, disease and right-to-die situations like Terri Schiavo, many politicians tend to misunderstand the science behind them. Without a solid understanding, we become less capable of differentiating between the genuine article and the counterfeit, and our leaders end up botching up potentially good policy.

Nope, not a day goes by that they fail to affix the logo of Terri to Fred.
But is this the same Fred Thompson who has been campaigning for President recently? The Fred Thompson who, while campaigning in Florida, didn't know the details of the Terri Schiavo case or that some people want to drill for oil in the Everglades?

Ping a thread by lizol on the passing of Father Zdzisław Peszkowski, survivor of Katyn. Thanks for the ping, LilAngel.
Until the last days of his life, Fr. Peszkowski fought for the truth about the 1940 Soviet mass murder of twenty thousand Polish POWs - military officers, but also civilians - professors, doctors, lawyers, clergy, higher state officials - the intellectual elite of pre-war Poland. The truth, as he often reminded, which was forbidden during the decades of communist regime in Europe.
'The truth about the Katyn massacre has for years been a tester of conscience of many world powers who knew about it, but kept silent, captive to different entanglements.'

If this unfortunate young man went to a public school in the United States, a flyer would go home to every kid in his class saying they could only bring chicken, carrots, grapes, potatoes and apples for lunch and that there would be no parties with cakes or treats for birthdays.
Sigh... In my day, we had in school one of the moms who planned each lunch, with good old home cooking, never any fast food, and we kids played outside with mercury watching it turn black in our hands, and making dimes shiny. (silver in those days)
I am still alive after all that.
Yes, his malady is real enough and here these days it would be taken out on all the other kids. The whole school would have to suffer.
Now, if the kids were taught that math is spelled meth, that might be ok.
WAYNE, NJ., Oct. 8 /Christian Newswire/ -- Ms. McCorvey former "Roe" in Roe vs. Wade in 1971 challenged the abortion laws in Texas. On appeal, her case went before the Supreme Court. In 1973 the Supreme Court legalized abortion in his country. Ms. McCorvey, however, has never had an abortion. Moreover, in 1995 she accepted the LORD. Her conversion to Christianity inspired her to start Crossing Over Ministry where she serves as National Director. Her ministry is dedicated to helping over turning Roe v Wade. Do all remember Dylan Walborn. Well, I do. For little Dylan was not so different than our own son. The big difference is that we could not imagine doing what these parents did and he led a happy life for twenty six years, finally succumbing to a fierce disease we parents caught too.
As a reminder, here is a website detailing what happened.
IN MEMORIAL Dylan Walborn, 2000 - 2005
It is a difficult but necessary read for me, because the resume of his problems is just too familiar and I must surpress the outrage. Totally absent from the killing team justification is the joy, the happiness, and the pure angelic looks these little kids radiate. What evil it must take to suppress such good!
The following is a reader response to the editor in the Denver Post:
...................................
Editor,
What hypocrites!
After glorifying Dylan Walborn's starvation by parents
who wearied of giving their disabled child appropriate
care, the Denver Post's Kevin Simpson chronicled his
starvation death for over 20 days. The inaptly titled,
"Letting Go, Dylan's last days," was an instruction
manual for euthanizing medically vulnerable children.
Your editorial praising a Denver Human Services
investigation of the death of Chandler Grafner falls
on deaf ears after the Post gave a plethora of reasons
and justifications for starving little Dylan to death.
You set the standard and gave other parents the idea
that when the going gets rough, ending innocent life
is permissible.
Shame on you for pretending otherwise.
