[Ron] Paul To Surprise Again? (Fundraising)
RealClearPolitics ^ | September 30, 2007 | Reid Wilson

Posted on 09/30/2007 3:16:26 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

As the fundraising quarter draws to a close at midnight tonight, candidates are scrambling to boost their numbers by any means necessary (we've received two fundraising pitches signed by candidates with the subject line "Hey," and one from a spouse headed "Re: Hey"). And while he's gotten little attention outside his fervent and fanatic fan base, Texas Congressman Ron Paul, who finished the second quarter with more cash on hand than Sen. John McCain, could have another surprise in store for the media establishment his supporters so often malign.

In the run-up to the filing deadline, Paul's supporters were asked to help the candidate raise $500,000 in just a few days. That's more than former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee raised in the entire first quarter, by the way. Yesterday, the Paul campaign revised its goal -- supporters had raised $850,000 already, and the campaign was shooting for $1 million by midnight tonight.

The campaign reached the $1 million mark last night, a full day ahead of schedule.

Paul won't outraise any of the front-runners, but the frugality with which he is running the campaign, as well as the fervency of his supporters and his presence in Iowa and New Hampshire, mean that he will be one second-tier candidate unwilling to drop out before the nominating process takes its course. Paul could cause some serious problems for the front-runners, and it looks increasingly like he will have the money to compete in at least a few early states.

Once again, let’s explain it to all the kindergartens out there? He takes requests from constituents and turns them into earmarks. Then he votes against the final bill which the earmarks are included. He’s stated time and time again that he doesn’t like this system but, being a duly elected member of Congress, he must follow the rules set forth therefore.

Don't you all love the wink, wink, nudge, nudge of establishment politicians and the way they can back-door earmarks on things they claim to oppose- things that they speak out greatly against like the NAU- and stick it on to bills they know will pass. It's called having your cake and eating it too. He can appease the sheep by saying all the pretty words to make his followers believe he is a man of principle and at the same time, he can give a little wink to the Trans-Texas folks as he backdoors their request.

Talk about symbolism over substance.

Wikipedia? Is that the best you can do? Try this instead:

ha ha... besides the fact I posted three links, not one.. the best you can come up with is this conspiracy site.

Anyone reading this, please look at the site that KentuckyWoman posted and judge for yourself. This is almost as bad as Alex Jones’ Prisionplanet.com.

Israel is a true friend, and no other such incident has ever happened

You think not? I would kindly suggest that you do a bit more research into the subject. The Liberty most certainly was not the only time nor was it the last. Not trying to be argumentative, just trying to get everyone to get their history facts straight. I don't hate Israel (nor any other country nor its people, for that matter). I just want to know why Israel seems to get a pass while other nations are invaded. It's a legitimate question.

No, that's just the first one I came across with a few interviews of the people who were actually involved.

I just love the way some people like to brand anything they don't WANT to believe as 'conspiracy'. I suppose you also think that L.H.Oswald was the lone gunman who killed Kennedy too?

For those who stumble on this and don't realize you are just being a parody, I want to make sure people have some good information.

Here is a link to the official investigations on the subject.

http://www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org/jsource/History/liberty2.html

Investigation Date Conclusion
U.S. Navy Court of Inquiry June 10-18, 1967 The attack was a case of mistaken identity. Calm conditions and slow ship speed may have made American flag difficult to identify. No indication the attack was intended against U.S. ship.
CIA Report June 13, 1967 The attack was not made in malice and was a mistake.
Joint Chiefs of Staff Fact Finding Team (Russ Report) June 9-20, 1967 Outlined "findings of fact," bud did not make any findings about the actual attack.
Clifford Report July 18, 1967 No premeditation, but "inexcusable failures" by Israeli forces constituting "gross negligence."
Senate Committee on Foreign Relations 1967 Secretary of Defense McNamara testified he supported conclusion that the attack was not intentional.
Senate Armed Services Committee Feb. 1, 1968 No conclusion. Secretary McNamara makes comparison of attack on Liberty to that on Pueblo with regard to uncertainty about what was happening at the time of the incident.
House Appropriations Committee April-May 1968 Navy communications "foulup" and no conclusion regarding Israeli actions. Much of report remains classified.
House Armed Services Committee May 10, 1971 Critical of Navy communications, no conclusion regarding Israeli actions.
Senate Select Committee on Intelligence 1979 Responding to critical book by Liberty crewman James Ennes, Senate investigation found no merit to his claim attack was intentional.
National Security Agency 1981 Liberty was mistaken for an Egyptian ship as a result of miscalculations and egregious errors.
House Armed Services Committee June 1991 Responding to request from Liberty Veterans Association, Subcommitte on Investigations launched probe that concluded there was no evidence to support allegations made by the Association and no reason for further investigation.

Israeli Investigations

Investigation Date Conclusion
Ram Ron Commission June 12, 1967 The attack was made "neither maliciously nor in gross negligence, but as the result of a bona fide mistake. Also notes that the Liberty made a mistake as well by carelessly approaching a war area.
Preliminary Inquiry July 1967 There was no malicious intent and no deviation from the standard of reasonable conduct that would justify a court-martial.
IDF History 1982 The attack was a result of an "innocent error."

Oh that is TOO FUNNY.....you offer ‘evidence’ that the attack wasn’t deliberate by sending folks to the JEWISH LIBRARY!!!! Adalai Stevenson though the attack was deliberate and started a Congressional investigation about it....what happened?....Israel gave the US $$$$ (which they promptly recouped back from the American taxpayers) to stop the investigation! It’s not a state-secret anymore and the fact that you don’t WANT to believe doesn’t alter the FACTS.

Yep, can’t trust that Zionist Jewish Library, especially because they source the official investigations and we know the government in the US and Israel is really behind the conspiracy... //sarc

It’s not against federal law to have unpaid, enthusiastic volunteers making signs, donating their time and money, working the grounds, and contributing individually without the aide of special-interest groups or PACs, but whatever. It’s all moot anyway, right? Paul’s not going to win anyway, he’s a moonbat kook. Let’s just say that all of Ron Paul’s money came from Code Pink, MoveOn.org, and neo-Nazis skinheads and kill the thread.

Note the bold. Who are they donating to? The campaign? Within legal limits that's fine and hardly worth explaining.

Cash contributions to non special-interest groups or PACs, I haven't a clue what those are, but if they're advocating the election of a specific candidate, I'm consult an attorney before I became involved.

He will break existing treaties with true allies.

Tell it to the crew of the U.S.S. Liberty.

Are you suggesting that Israel isn't a true ally, or that as a true ally Paul will break existing treaties.

What is Paul's position on the USS Liberty, I didn't know it was a campaign issue, but I'm not surprised?

How is Paul going to break existing treaties with allies? Through Congress, or does he think he's being elected Emporer Paul?

The Liberty, in all likelyhood, would have been completely sank had it not been for RUSSIAN fighter planes who saw what was happpening and reported it back to the USSR!!

There were no Russian planes involved.

But then you know that, don't you.

Friendly fire? Are you being deliberatly obtuse? Listen to the other ship's commanders who were there that day. President Johnson gave one of them a direct order to stand down when he wanted to launch his ship's planes to defend the Liberty!! The attack on the Liberty went on for several HOURS and her U.S. flag was plainly visible! The Liberty, in all likelyhood, would have been completely sank had it not been for RUSSIAN fighter planes who saw what was happpening and reported it back to the USSR!! Do a little research on the Libetty and THEN get back to us 'anit-semites' who simply want the truth to be told no matter who doens't like it.

Oh that is TOO FUNNY.....you offer ‘evidence’ that the attack wasn’t deliberate by sending folks to the JEWISH LIBRARY!!!! Note the bold, what utter nonsense.

There were no Soviet planes at the scene, the Soviet’s didn’t stop the attack. Your source for that please, KW.

KW presents one of the best examples of the pig-ignorant garbage that conspiracy and Jew hater sites peddle.

Adalai Stevenson started a Congressional investigation, which the Jews bought their way out of.

KW, as mnehrling’s Jew source points out, with footnotes for those bothered by Jew sources there were 11 American investigation, 6 of which were Congressional.

And Adalai Stevenson started no Congressional investigation.

Not because he was a former Governor, but because he had been DEAD for nearly two years when the attack happened.

Classic conspiracy stuff, Paul supporters channeling the dead. I’d love to see your Stevenson source, KW. Even rense isn’t that stupid.

To minimize the embarrassment to Paul supporters who aren’t conspiracy nuts, here’s a few threads you can reping KW.

That’s how I feel about Fred Lobbyist.

I prefer my limited government politicians to practice what they preach, now work to increase the size of government.

And I certainly don’t appreciate them working on the behalf of foreign dictators.
