Dems Hot Over Rush's 'Phony Troops' Comment Talk Show Host Draws Fire
POSTED: 7:54 am EDT September 28, 2007 UPDATED: 8:22 am EDT September 28, 2007 The war of words over the conflict in Iraq took a new turn Thursday as Democrats in Congress excoriated radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh for calling some soldiers "phony troops."
Limbaugh had argued with a caller on Wednesday about when U.S. troops ought to be brought home. The caller, who identified himself as "Mike" from Chicago and said he was an a Iraq veteran and a Republican, pushed Limbaugh on whether the occupation in Iraq would last forever.
Limbaugh and his next caller, who also said he was in the military, both referred to soldiers who criticize the war and urge that troops be brought home as "phony troops."
The exchange came a week after the Senate passed a resolution condemning the anti-war group MoveOn for an ad in the New York Times that asked whether Gen. David Petraeus, in testimony before Congress, would be "General Betray-us." The House passed a similar resolution this week.
Rep. Patrick Murphy, D-Pa., an Iraq veteran critical of the war, scolded Limbaugh in a Thursday column on the HuffingtonPost.com Web site.
"When someone like Rush Limbaugh says that soldiers who disagree with the failed strategies of President Bush, Vice President Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld are 'phony soldiers,' you have to consider the source," he wrote.
"Rush Limbaugh, who, in January, called Vietnam veteran Sen. Chuck Hagel, R-Neb., 'Senator Betrayus' for disagreeing with President Bush, has made no secret of his disdain for those who serve and speak out. Where was Rush Limbaugh when it came time to serve his country?"

By the way, communist folk singer Pete Singer also served, in WW II. Sometimes, to quote Ann Richards, "ya jes' cain't hep it."
Bump
Local talk-show host Mike McConnell had a story not long ago (don’t know the airline) about an airline that identified a soldier in the waiting area and said, over the intercom, “Everyone, please welcome back Pvt./Cpl/Sgt. So-and-so who is just returning from Iraq,” and he got a standing ovation. Then, the airline bumped his ticket up to a first-class seat. Now THAT’S respect.
The fact is there are many strange people who never served, or busted out of basic training who pose as veterans, bragging about their exploits.
When I returned from Korea in ‘53, I must have run into a dozen of such in the next few years. For one who was there, it was easy to identify them. Anyone without the Korea experience would have bought their line, hook-line-and sinker!

1960-1964.
True, if Arnold had died at Saratoga, they would have named cities, schools, universities, streets, parks etc. etc. etc. after him. "Benedict" would be an extremely popular boy's name. There would be a huge statue of him in Washington, DC.
But he made a very bad choice.
All I know is he got addicted while serving his country...Of course, everything he does is a service to his country.
Not just Saratoga. He fought courageously in Canada, as I recall, and one of the reasons for his betrayal was that he thought he was not getting the recognition for his efforts that he was entitled to.
it is a “Fact” that there are Phony callers into Conservative talk shows, and Rush can smell them a mile away. there are clues as these people speak, they dont use millitary language correctly, or in the wrong context...real Millitary people call in and point out the flaws...I was in the Army for 3 years and even in my limited experience..I notice these fakes.
The leftist scumbags are the “SUSPECT” ones for veracity.
screw their Fake “Outrage”
Yes!!! Jesse McBeth!!! Lying Fake Soldier!!!!
in case you asked...hard to forget.
Actually, people, there is a more subtle item in here that the Democrats have instructed their people to recite as a mantra and the time has come to counterattack.
“Failed Policy”.
We hear that buzzphrase about EVERYTHING done by the administration. Failed tax policy. Failed Economic Policy. Failed Judge Nomination Process. It’s the new “culture of corruption”.
It is past time to start talking about SUCCESS. Successful this and successful that. The policy in Iraq has been successful. Tax policy has been successful.
Wow, I was in 84-88. America slept well because I was walking the wall!! I worked Electronic Intel. It was really interesting and the job changed all the time. I spent alot of time at Edwards AFB. Saw some cool stuff.
“Benedict Arnold served didnt he?”
Too bad Ole Bennie’s punishment is not still applied to traitors. ‘Course, that would reduce the number in Congress pretty quick...
He IS serving his country much better than Hagel!
This is why I won't be voting for republicans next year. How can they expect me to support their policies when THEY don't even support their policies?
If they aren't prosecuting traitors, or defending our borders from foreign agents, then this IS NOT a war.
So I wind up in the Air Police stationed in the UK. Go figure. Turned out well though, had a great time, there was peace (got a bit touchy when Kennedy was assassinated)and London was friggin GREAT!!
