5 GOP candidates commit to Baltimore debate (No Fred, Rudy McRomney, but there are Hunter and Paul)

Just five Republican candidates - half the invited field - will take part in Thursday's presidential debate in Baltimore, event organizers said yesterday.
The four leading contenders, Rudolph W. Giuliani, John McCain, Mitt Romney and Fred Thompson, have each said they will not participate in the forum focusing on issues facing minority voters. Their absence has drawn the ire of Tavis Smiley, the talk-show host who is moderating and organizing the debate at Morgan State University; he said the candidates are making a mistake in not reaching out to black voters.
A list of confirmed participants released yesterday also omits Rep. Tom Tancredo of Colorado, a staunch opponent of current immigration policy. Confirmed are Sen. Sam Brownback of Kansas, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, Alan L. Keyes of Maryland, Rep. Duncan Hunter of California and Rep. Ron Paul of Texas, organizers said.
Also yesterday, former Lt. Gov. Michael S. Steele, the chairman of GOPAC, a Republican political action committee, said in a statement that he was "hopeful" each missing candidate would "adjust his schedule" to participate.

Another blogger whose opinions are as worth as much as anyones but he is even less convincingly then you are...This is the first response to his rant.
Sir, the only terrorist attack Dr. Paul blamed on US foreign policy was 9/11. The CIA just so happens to agree with him.And consider that Paul linked the beginnings of our problems to the CIA disposing of Iranian President Mozedek back in 1953 (it put the Shah in power). You may recall that Jimmuh Carter reaped the damage from that interference.
This isn't something that happened on 9/10/01, we've been making mistakes like that for decades.
Still, Explaining motive of the opposition is NOT assigning blame to America.

A lesson to keep in mind for a country who has allowed the greatest military on the planet to deteriorate into a mere expeditionary force that no longer has the logistics or manpower capability for sustained operations.

The only way that Ron Paul “knows the enemy” is how best to appease them...CUT & RUN, same as the DUmocrats.

Listen to the 30 minute tape that you posted. Ron Paul gives a very excellent position on why our federal government’s foreign policy failures of the past made and continue to make us more vulnerable to acts of terrorism, and why we should change our foreign policy to correct those errors.
Distorting such a reasoned position into "blame America first" just won't cut it anymore. You've outed yourself.

It’s the RINO Paul supporters who “out” themselves by supporting a POS who trivializes 9-11 deaths...
A lot fewer lives died on 9/11 than they do in less than a month on our highways, but once again, who owns the highways? Do we own the highways? No. Its a government institution you know.
We need to put all this in perspective.

“I keep getting the impression that Fred is hiding behind the skirts of Federalism whenever it suits him.”
Me too.
I mean, how does one decide that the second amendment is an untouchable right, but the right to life, which the second amendment is presumed to protect, which is identified in the 5th Amendment, and incorporated in the 14th Amendment, is a special interest issue which needs to be turned back to the states to protect or not, as the masses see fit?
How is it that speaking before a black, Latino, or prolife audience is pandering, but speaking before a progun audience is not?
I guess I’m just one of those people who believes in consistency.
How ridiculous of me to expect it of a presidential candidate!

"“Victory is the main object in war. . . . those skilled in war subdue the enemy’s army without battle. They capture his cities without assaulting them and overthrow his state withoutprotracted operations.” Sun Tzu" You seem to have not noticed the "without protracted operations" part of Sun Tzu's maxim. How about I want no prisoners, I want you to burn and kill, the more you burn and kill the better it would please me... The Surge was needed two years ago before the Golden Mosque was destroyed, now we either do the above, or bleed our finances dry in the process?

Roe V. Wade banned all state laws restricting, banning, or outlawing abortion.
The SCOTUS is facilitating murder, which they have ordered the state governments to protect.
The government is killing babies.
I'm glad we agree. The federal government's intrusion on the states is what is responsible. We need less federal intrusion, not more. Restore a federalist approach to governing, and the problem will be solved. Unfortunately, you've spent the last couple days arguing against that.

Divided government, to prevent abuse of our rights, is the central component of federalism.
Yes, but divided amongst what?
The political parties?
No.
The states?
Yes.
How does putting everything in the hands of the federal government protect our rights?
It doesn't.
Now go back and compare what you've learned with what you started out saying.

You think any of Pauls supporters will even watch this debate, considering that it turns out most of them are neo-nazis? Cute. You must be scared to resort to such ridiculous lies.

This is a BIG MISTAKE~!!
Talk about the GOP feeding the “racist” stereotype!
Don’t kid yourself people !!!! The 4 top runners of the GOP not showing up for this debate will bite them (and us) in the ass right up until the election!
I think this is a HUGE blunder on the part of our GOP presidential candidates. Pure stupidity! Right or wrong this validates the false claims that the GOP doesn't give a damn about Blacks....The criminal media will make the Katrina connection for sure. I'm angry and upset at this political suicide!!!!

I dont believe its a smart move for the so-called front-runners to blow this one off. The black community has a long memory and they are quite unforgiving when they feel ignored or slighted.
(ducking the flames)
Regarding post #69....
You Freepers are naive if you think this isn’t going to do real damage to the Front GOP candidates as well as the GOP in general. Its all over the news this morning The MSM is giddy with the prospect of the GOP presidential candidates handing on a silver platter the “racist” label. Any hope of shaving just a few black voters from the Democrats is destroyed by this snub from our GOP white Boys! Its insane and it will deliver a severe blow to us (again) Just like when our idiot leaders in DC passed up Michael Steel (black Republican) and instead gave the baggage burdened Trent Lott the prominent position in our party. God help me but our GOP leaders often have political savvy of a bull in a china store.
