Where are all the Ron Paul people coming from?
The Oregon Poll ^

Over the last two days The Oregon Poll was seen by almost 400 "unique visitors," most of them in support of Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul. The majority of these people came from these two links on the web.

Of course there’s nothing in the article in post 384 that hasn’t been discussed here for weeks if not months. Fortunately it’s an article in an internet publication, so there’s not much harm. Let the NYT or Washington Post run it, it will be a different story. But in an enviornment were Dem candidates are being hit for their association with left wing hate, the NYT or WP wouldn’t try to link Republicans to right wing hate, based on a marginal candidate. Would they?

I was going to post this in a new thread for discussion, but I'll just mention this here.
IMHO, apologists on both sides of the Paul debate are all just talking in circles, repeating the same thing over and over and over.
I propose a single thread where everyone will post one message on the year or nay of Paul. No personal attacks, no cartoon pictures, no nicknames; just a reasonable argument for our side. The thread will have no responses, only one post per person is allowed and it will be tightly control by the moderator who will delete anything they see as non-debate worthy (like name calling or photoshops.)
We all then would make a pact with each other, if any thread turns into another 500 post rant on the same old things, those who participated in the thread would simply link to it and say to look there for your argument. This way we all say our peace, the threads don't turn into lampoons of the political process, and we can all discuss something else for a change.
Note, this doesn't mean people aren't banned from posting articles on any candidate, but we should keep normal discussion of the article separate from the typical running around in circles like every other Paul thread turns into.
Thoughts?

No, I don’t think so. Do you really want to give DU ammunition?

Exactly. They do it all the time. So I ask the conservatives who also resort to slandering, why be like the liberals?
To: Waryone
How is that ammunition more than what they are offered in these threads? I think each person posting a single, well written argument about their side versus hundreds of posts fighting would be a hell of a lot better for our side.

My theory is that many of them are Democrats and left-leaning independents who are going to try to screw up the Republican primary.

If not, I'm not particularly interested.

Works fine the was it is. If it becomes a problem, the mods can throw the threads in chat or the back room so they don’t clog up the news forum.

Lets give Paul the benefit of the doubt that he had no background on what this site was really about when submitted articles to them. For someone who is running for President, that's not a good thing. Sloppy decision making isn't a good characteristic for a Presidential candidate let alone a President.

The point about only allowing one post per person is you must come up with your best, most complete argument and the thread isn’t wasted on back and forth.

At least they would have to search for what they are looking for and as it is now when the nut cases posts we can call them out. Put up one thread and you will see all the excerpts on DU.
If that’s the way you want it?

Paul should disassociate himself from these groups, else other Republican candidates will be forced to criticize him for them. Hmmm,
Did Karl Rove disassociate himself from La Raza? Did the administration and the Republicans criticize the White House top aid, or condemn him for this?
To: Waryone
I’m not talking about the nutcases, I’m talking about the real apologists for each side.

Who are the real apologists for each side?
The nut cases don’t believe they are nut cases. They think they are normal. They truly believe what they believe.
Are you suggesting some unknown higher authority edit the posts so that only the opinions on Paul that seem agreeable to them would be allowed?
Maybe I’m not quite getting what you are saying. I thought you meant anyone who had any opinion on Paul could post, but they would only get one chance to post. That means the nut cases too. Perhaps I misunderstood?

Maybe I should change the qualifier from nut cases to nutty posts, things like global reptilian alien conspiracies. The mods can set up the guidelines as to what is or isn’t acceptable.
