The following bit of light treason was passed along in a puff piece in the latest Harvard Alumni magazine:
It makes sense to be moderate politically only if there are two sides willing to engage, he says. The right wing isnt just taking over the country, its shanghaiing all our values. If theres a Republican administration after the next election, I would join in efforts for some sort of secession. Its not the same country anymore.
This comes from Howard Gardner, psychologist of multiple intelligence fame.

What “right wing” would that be? The current Administration may be Republican, but it certainly isn’t “right wing”.
Old Howard's not showing much of any kind of intelligence with that statement.
Letem secede! They can go to Vermont and join the movement.
More “it’s-true-because-I-say-it’s-true” bilge from the left. This “professor” cannot give one example to prove this point.
I'll join you in your efforts, Sunflower. Viva Jesusland.
Shangaiing?!!! How can he be so insensitve to the Chinese?
Oh, the humanity!
Howard who? Never heard of em. Another intellectual nobody!
So he’s okay with secession if he’s one of the ones doing the seceding, but I’ll bet he believes that the South didn’t have the right to secede back in 1861.
Right. Vermont does have a secessionist movement headed by an egg-head retired Duke professor named Naylor. He’s a fuzzy headed bespeckled bald guy who ties what little hair he has into a ponytail. He’s dubbed it “The Second Vermont Republic,” since Vermont was an independent republic from 1787 until 1791 before joining the union as the 14th state. Since more than half of Vermonters get a green check from Uncle Sam there is absolutely no chance of this movement succeeding. Too bad. It would be a nice way for America to unload some kooks and some financial obligations at the same time.
I think I heard him on David Brudnoy one night, halfway through Clinton's first term.
Personally, I was mad at what Clinton was doing, and Prof. Gardner wanted the chance to help Clinton be more effective at screwing up the country.
Athletics, mathematics, grifting/conartistry social skills, hand-eye-mind interaction of surgeons, etc.
Any state that can elect Bernie Sanders, Patrick Leahy and Howard Dean can leave any time and take Some Harvard freaks with them on their way out.
You forget, the Socialists who’ve wanted to tear down our Constitutional form of government for 100 years are the seditious ones.
The full might of the US military can be used to stamp out their uprising. No need to go to your personal powder keg.
Secession? What a good idea!
Please follow through.
He says that I am shanghaiing his values? That would imply that I am taking his values. No way, professor! You can keep your values, is that’s what you wish to call them.
By the way, isn’t the term “Shanghaiing” culturally insensitive? It doesn’t bother me that much; but in this new secessionist country you are planning (perhaps to be located on an off-shore oile platfomr), you better be careful with demeaning language like that.
Most of the guns, and most of the farms. If the ‘Blue States’ from 2004 seceeded, they wouldn’t be able to feed themselves, despite CA being among them. And I’m sure the Central Valley would love getting it’s own 2 senators to stay in the Union like West Virginia did during the ‘Late Unpleasantness’.
Ah, Reconstruction: forget the ‘malice toward none’ stuff, we’ll go straight to Radical Reconstruction.
