LAKELAND, Fla., Sept. 15 At his second campaign stop of the day on Friday, just after 2 p.m., Fred D. Thompson was deep into a riff on the benefits of high-quality American health care.
Its allowing us to live healthier lives and to live longer, Mr. Thompson said at a Jaycee park here. Thats good news. But we have more retired folks. I hope to become one of them one of these days.
Nervous laughter from the audience.
Not too soon, he added hastily.
So much for dispelling the idea that he is too lazy to run for president...
His critics, already pointing to what they call Mr. Thompsons skimpy Senate record, might find even more ammunition in his campaign schedule... Mr. Thompson has made a languid three-day swing through Florida ending Saturday. The pace has kept him on a jumbo air-conditioned bus far more often than he is actually campaigning.
Since Thursday morning, when the tour began, Mr. Thompson has made no more than three campaign stops a day, with long stretches in between. In recent spins through Iowa, he kept a similarly relaxed schedule. Mitt Romney, by comparison, often does six town-hall-style forums a day when in Iowa...
But once off the bus, Mr. Thompson has shown occasional signs of discomfort. In a speech here on Friday, he sweated profusely under the afternoon sun, breathed heavily and, while struggling over a question, asked no one in particular if his microphone was on. (It was.)
Some audience members winced as Mr. Thompson sweated through the question-and-answer session.
Im surprised they didnt pull him out of there, said John Chambers of nearby Punta Gorda, after the speech ended. Suzanne Miranda, who watched the event from a lawn chair, said, I felt bad for him...

You must be pretty full of spite if you'd stay home and not vote and allow Shrillary to get elected.
You call Fred boring. I bet you're a regular "Mr. Excitement" everywhere you go with that attitude.
I have received two mails from Candeee telling me that her questions are facts and that after I find the “truth” (my quotations) she expects my apology and that if I am afraid to do it in public then a private apology will suffice.
Im sorry Candee that you have no clue.
Think that does it?

Maybe its just the hot, lazy days of summer and getting into shape for a campaign for president. Not every presidential candidate needs to be a lard@$$ and eat junk food like Bill Clinton
Definite troll behavior using Freepmail. They don’t want to deal with the rest of us and hide in the dark.
So, has she converted you? LOLOL!
oh yes I am now voting for Freds wife.
>>>He just seems too slick and phoney<<<
Funny, the only candidate who has really achieved any degree of success in private enterprise and the most in his family life is viewed as phony.
I tend to think the supporters of a man whose biggest accomplishment on his resume is McCain-Feingold tend to be a bit phony, especially considering Thompson’s reluctance to commit to no new taxes, his unwilligness to back a border fence, his disbelief in federal tort reform, and his unwilligness to back a marriage amendment.
If Romney held those views, he’d be a non-starter. But Thompson, with his baritone southern voice, why! he’s trustworthy and a great leader. Yeah, right.
Jeri! Jeri! Jeri!
She is not, and you're no gentleman.
If there is such as a thing as a trophy wife, then the definition fits.
This definition from Wikipedia fits in every particular:
Trophy wife is a pejorative term, usually applied to a physically attractive younger woman married to a man who has obtained a high level of success, be it physical, financial, or otherwise. Usually, the Trophy Wife is not the first wife of the man and has had little to do with the achievement of that success.
Whether you are I believe that Jeri constitutes a trophy wife is immaterial. Regardless of what you or I believe, she will be perceived as such by swing voting women whose votes a GOP candidate will need.
Does what? Blind faith can sometimes be a good thing. I admit I don’t really get the Fredhead cult. I must be missing something about your attraction to him at all costs.
Did you learn to evaluate and diagnose people that you’ve never even met at Medical school? I was taught that to even appear to do so is unethical.
On the other hand, where I come from we are suspicious of good ol’ boys who dress prettier than girls while seeming to spend a lot of time, money and obsession on their appearance. That’s just not normal. What if Mitt can’t get his hair done every day? Can he pick out his own ties or even shave himself?
ugh....sighs
I really do love when people assume they know someones thoughts. at all costs? Now at least I can understand where you came up with your initial questions. My previous posts never hinted at blind faith. I only have blind faith where it pertains to God.
Twice now you have insulted my intelligence...I will not respond in mail or here to anymore of your inane posts.
I really dont get libs like you who hide behind their own inflated opinion of themselves at ALL COSTS.
Good day candee may God bless you.
Who is your preferred candidate?
I’ve been away for a while and have been a bit taken back by all the Fred support on here (including by Jim Robinson). Any idea why so many freepers seem so enthralled with Fred? Is it just that they think he’s better than the other front runners or is there something real that’s got them hooked? I just don’t see it. I remember some of the bush bots exibiting the same kind of behavior as the Fredheads. Is there a link?
You are scum.
why am I hearing the Cyndi Lauper song running through my head...
I see your true colors shining through.......
snickers.
George Bush was elected President twice.
Hopefully there will be a link. :)
OK. I’ll tell you exactly why, and try to be even-handed as possible.
Is Fred the second coming of Reagan? No. However:
-he’s the most conservative electable guy out there
-shows better against Obama and Hillary than even Giuliani at this point in most polls
-won’t lose votes due to the Mormon factor or the pro-choice factor as the other guys
-communicates conservatism in a way that people like and understand it
-is a Federalist and will stand by that principle even if the issue itself sounds conservative - if it’s not a federal issue, Fred says, stay out
-strongly pro-life in his votes
-strongly pro-second amendment in his record
-probably the best on immigration we can hope for (Romney might be better in this regard...but I doubt it)
-worked somewhere besides elected office in his lifetime
Thanks! Now I have that song running through my head. Yikes! :)
Yes, Jim Robinson has been called out now. Could get interesting....
pops popcorn and ices the coke...want some?
LOL
