OK. I’ll tell you exactly why, and try to be even-handed as possible.
Is Fred the second coming of Reagan? No. However:
-he’s the most conservative electable guy out there
-shows better against Obama and Hillary than even Giuliani at this point in most polls
-won’t lose votes due to the Mormon factor or the pro-choice factor as the other guys
-communicates conservatism in a way that people like and understand it
-is a Federalist and will stand by that principle even if the issue itself sounds conservative - if it’s not a federal issue, Fred says, stay out
-strongly pro-life in his votes
-strongly pro-second amendment in his record
-probably the best on immigration we can hope for (Romney might be better in this regard...but I doubt it)
-worked somewhere besides elected office in his lifetime
*hes the most conservative electable guy out there
Do you honestly believe that a man that
1 opposes the Federal Marriage Amendment
2 is unsure whether a border fence “of stone or mortar” is necessary
3 opposes federal tort reform
4 opposed and voted against a voluntary program to allow employers to track the legality of their employees
5 voted against increasing fines on businesses who hire illegal aliens
6 voted against a bill that would have denied illegal immigrants the right to federal benefits outside of emergency medical care
is the most conservative in this race? How? And why?
I appreciate your civility. While I agree with some of your points, didn’t he support some senate bills that included gun bans & confiscations and is all forgiven for the McCain-Feingold campaign finance bill?
“OK. Ill tell you exactly why, and try to be even-handed as possible.”
I’ll give you kudos for a polite and persuasive post... Actual reasons for support are far more persuasive than some of the knee-jerk emotionalism I’ve been seeing on this thread. I hope Fred Thompson supporters don’t go the way of Ron Paul supporters and bash anyone who has questions about their candidate, which I’ve unfortunately seen a lot of here tonight.
I hope this isn’t a sign of things to come. We need to be united behind a nominee, not factionalized amongst ourselves against him.
