In the early to mid-80s, men work pink dress shirts (or pink stripes) with white collars and it was fashionable.

Reminds me the scene in “Rudy” where the entire team volunteers to sit out so Rudy can suit up for the big game.

David said one of the bullies angrily asked him whether he knew pink on a male was a symbol of homosexuality. Actually, it has been suggested by the APA that violent hostility to homosexuality is a sign of repressed homosexual tendencies... take that for what it's worth, Mr Bully...

If you’re going to go to the trouble of raising a mob, you may as well enlist it in the beatdown of the bullies and not just in wearing pink.

Treat thugs, er, bullies like in the real world: suspend them for a first offense and prosecute them for assault.
Its one thing if Joe and John agree to meet in the schoolyard after class to "work things out." Its quite another when Joe, Frank, and Pat gang up on John unprovoked and proceed to blindly assault him.
Its amazing what the scumbags who went to my elementary school got away with...

The bully wouldn’t last too long here on campus. Lots of guys are wearing pink now that preppy has come back.

From
this article:
There is no reason why you should take my word for this. Back in the days when ladies had a home journal (in 1918) the Ladies Home Journal wrote: There has been a great diversity of opinion on the subject, but the generally accepted rule is pink for the boy and blue for the girl. The reason is that pink being a more decided and stronger color is more suitable for the boy, while blue, which is more delicate and dainty, is prettier for the girl. The Sunday Sentinel in 1914 told American mothers: If you like the color note on the little ones garments, use pink for the boy and blue for the girl, if you are a follower of convention. Some sources suggest it wasnt until the 1940s that the modern gender associations of girly pink became universally accepted. Pink is, therefore, perhaps not biologically girly. Boys who were raised in pink frilly dresses went down mines and fought in World War 2. Clothing conventions do change over time.

Just fantastic - a future leader. But shouldn't someone tell the bullies that - at least I think - PURPLE is the choice of color for homosexuals? Even that aside - it just may be that some folk, of all ages, just aren't up on which colors signify what or are taboo.
Over 30 Years ago, I had a daycare I called "RAINBOW HOUSE" - with rainbow making crystals in the windows, throwing moving rainbows around the walls and ceilings - and kids. They loved it...
Since the, the homosexuals have "appropriated" the rainbow...and now straight people are afraid to use it for anything.
Well, just excuse this old gramma all to he*l - They aren't keeping me from enjoying my rainbows. They do not and cannot "own" either the rainbow or a color.
We bow to them on it at our peril. I love this school story = it said NOTHING about the "Pink" organizer as supporting or showing tolerance for homosexuality - or indicated in any way that the victim of the bullies was gay - just that it was a protest, a very clever one, against bullying.

It used to be a symbol of folks who washed their whites with their reds (i.e. men who didn't know what we were doing or didn't care). I probably still have some pink long johns tucked away somewhere in the closet.

You can take this only so far. If a kid wears something he knows is socially unacceptable then he is going to get flack for it. That's just human nature. He should not be beat up or teased about his physical features, but kids will comment on clothing. Welcome to reality. I don't think that makes those guys bullies unless they hit him or something. And in this case there are two wrongs competing against each other, homosexuality and teasing. Of significance is the question of whether the kid was flaunting femininity or if he just had a hint of pink in his shirt. How wilfull was the pink shirted kid? Did his mom make him wear the shirt? Etc.
Kids will be kids. All teasing will not be eliminated unless you gag them. I do remember a kid with a harelip being teased pretty significantly. Now that was tragic because the kid couldn't help it. Still, how far can you go controlling kids being kids?
