Frohnmayer blasts Bush, joins race (OR Senate Race)

Oregon's newest candidate for U.S. Senate minced no words about one of his priorities if he's elected.

"President Bush should be impeached," said John Frohnmayer, who announced his bid Wednesday as a member of Oregon's newly formed Independent Party. With that, he became the state's first Senate candidate to call for legal action against the president.

The statement drew immediate criticism. State Republican chairman Vance Day called it "reckless."

But Frohnmayer was adamant, saying Bush has ignored or inserted his own interpretation of hundreds of laws, including those regarding wiretapping and torture.

"We must respond to what amounts to constitutional demolition," he said. "If he is not impeached, the same constitutional abuse is available to the next administration."

Frohnmayer, 65, is a Corvallis lawyer, former head of the National Endowment for the Arts and brother of University of Oregon President Dave Frohnmayer. His announcement complicates and further enlivens what looks to be the headliner political race in Oregon next year.

Gordon Smith has to contend with two moonbats.

They don't make bigger moonbats than Gordon Smith. Look in the dictionary, there's his picture under RINO.

You’re getting him confused with his brother. Dave F. is a RINO, but he’s not a Communist. The brother running for the Senate is one.

A moonbat - reminds of that what was his name in Connecticut. Certifiable loons like him should be locked up.

I’ll tell you where I have a mild concern here. Some older OR residents will see “Frohnmayer” and think he’s the nice old Republican AG and that might harm Smith. But the brother is obviously a serious mental case, and hopefully they will point out that he ain’t Dave.

The problem is the GOP has lots of seats to defend, including open seats. The Democrats have fewer seats, virtually all of them rated safe. I see the Senate becoming more Democrat in 2009. Of course, 14 months is an eternity in politics.

Yep. MoveOn and Kos pushed him. Lieberman won and if the war is so unpopular with the American people, he shouldn't have been re-elected to the Senate. The MSM and the Democrats leave that out of their theory that the Democrats win in 2006 was based on a rejection of the war.

Lieberman ought to realize that Republicans saved his ass in ‘06 and caucus with them, ditto Ben Nelson. We could end the rodent majority tomorrow if they chose to do the right thing.
