Pit Bulls Kill Man, Woman In Michigan
The Indy Channel ^ | September 14, 2007

DETROIT -- An elderly man and a woman were mauled to death by pit bulls in Iosco Township, Mich., on Thursday afternoon, police said.

Michigan State Police were called to a farm and found a 90-year-old man mauled to death by dogs.

The Iosco Sheriff’s Department said the man’s 70-year-old son went to check on his father, who was visiting the property, and found him dead in the yard.

Police said there were still pit bulls in the yard when the son arrived.

Upon further investigation, MSP found dogs had also fatally mauled a 56-year-old woman who was jogging, just west of the property.

Investigators confiscated 10 pit bulls from a nearby residence.

MSP said there are still some dangerous dogs at large in the area.

The deaths are still under investigation by MSP.

“Blame the deed, not the breed”.

But it's the breed that does the deed.

Can't carelessly leave a gun where little kids can reach it. Can't carelessly have dogs where innocents might get hurt.

It’s your position, then, that a reasonable person would not conclude that large mastiff dogs, trained for attack by a convicted drug dealer, might pose a threat when handled by someone with no professional dog experience ?

Are you being intentionally dense or do you really not understand? It's my position that you don't need all all of the things you say to define a threat, that the specific breed alone is enough to define a threat.

Right, because the incidents of miniature poodles attacking, overwhelming, and killing a grown adult are simply too numerous to account.

Kill. Them. All.

or

Put them in zoos.

Don’t buy it from me, consult any military or police dog handler and ask why not pit bulls.

A family down the street has two pit bulls. They got them as puppies and now they're full grown. I didn't think anything about it since they seemed to be treated ok. They get walked, played with in the yard, etc. But the other day when I was walking my dog, the man came out with the dogs, and the two dogs began viciously fighting with each other. The man was in the middle and he kicked them both with his rollerblade. The dogs stopped.

I'm of two minds here... one, the guy is a jackass for kicking his dogs, esp. with skates. And two, two pit bulls in the same house- only one will survive. Should I be worried? I only see them on the bike paths when they are being walked and they steer clear.

When you have no answer to an argument, resorting to ad hominum attacks just cements that reality.

Any large dog presents some level of threat, especially if it’s with other dogs (that’s a pack for those of you in Rio Linda). That’s why experts recommend males be castrated at a young age, and that’s why communities have laws that forbid allowing any dog to roam at large.

The woman who owned the dogs wasn't doing anything until a neighbor ran into his house and got a gun and shot the dogs. She then attacked him screaming "don't hurt my dogs - don't hurt my dogs" he shot her too. She was charged with attacking him.

Sweet, I love a happy ending.

Sorry FRiend. This actually happened, where a minature poodle got hungry and started eating the owner, who had passed out in their small house.

Thought you were referring to that. Forgot where I saw it, but it was about six weeks ago.

Well to tell you the truth I am sick and tired of the Pitbull bashing. Any large dog can be as sweet as pie if you raise them right. I would like to have the stats to these pitbull attacks and see where and how they are raised. Someone who has 10 pitbulls is up to no good.

I don’t think I’m being unreasonable. There is no constitutional right to keep a pit bull, and I value human life more than pit bulls.

attacks just cements that reality. blah blah blah ...When you have no answer to an argument,

You have no argument. When someone tells me my position is the exact opposite of what I said, particularly in their words not mine, there is something wrong. So when someone is that far off they're either missing the point or being a jerk. I asked you which it was. I asked you before and I'll ask you again So which was it?

Does anyone here know of any statistics for serious dog bites or fatal maulings that include the spay/neuter status of the dogs? I’ve always assumed that intact male dogs are by far the worst offenders, but I don’t know that for a fact.

I have been personally involved in just one potentially life-threatening incident with a dog, and that was with an intact male pit bull. Off the top of my head, I think the majority of the friend-of-a-friend incidents that I know about also involved large male dogs that had not been neutered.

Geez, a lot of ignorance here. I can make any dog mean and dangerous. It has little to do with the breed. It’s the scum who train them to be attack dogs.

Define “pit bull”. If you define it as Staffordshire terriers, please give a verified, documented case of an AKC registered Staffordshire Bull Terrier causing the death of a human being in the United States.

>You have no argument.<

You say that because a dog happens to be a particular breed, regardless of training, spay/neuter or intact, and owner’s experience with that breed, or with dogs in general, that dog is a threat.

I think you are way outside your area of expertise.

Have you ever put any training title on a dog? What is your experience with animals, outside of simply owning a pet?

Yeah, I agree that would be a difficult thing because you can cross them, but they have laws against harboring wolves, and you can cross wolves too. What it all comes down to is that the authorities would have a legal basis to take your dog if they thought that it was part pit bull. You’d probably still have difficulty getting a conviction though, unless you were dealing with a dog that the owner knew was a pit bull.

If my neighbor brought one home, it’d be gone in a week.

What would you do to make it "gone in a week"?

Banning the other dangerous breeds might be more difficult

What are the "other dangerous breeds" that don't meet with your approval?
