RUSH: We've talked about the congressman, shared the piece with you from Michael O'Shea and the AmericanThinker.com. They're gutless. They don't have beliefs. They don't keep promises. They don't stick to things and so forth. We've discussed all aspects of their arrogance today; their conceit; their elitism; and they're nuts. There was an online forum with the Democrat presidential candidates moderated by Bill Maher. Senator Biden got this question from Bill Maher: "Senator Biden, forgetting about the upcoming Iowa caucus for just a moment, which would you honestly say is more likely to contribute to the death of your average American: a terrorist strike or high fructose corn syrup and air that has too much coal in it?"
BIDEN: Air that has too much coal in it, corn syrup next, then a terrorist attack. But that is not in any way to diminish the fact that a terrorist attack is real, but hundreds of thousands of people die and their lives are shortened because of coal plants, coal-fired plants, and because of corn syrup.
RUSH: Do you believe this? Hundreds of thousands of people die and their lives are shortened because of coal plants? I told you all about seeing this giant, giant cargo ship of coal on Long Island Sound heading in. It was so big they couldn't get it to shore, and had to have tenders come out and take the coal in. The coal was, by the way, not from America. Senator, you want to try firing these power plants with something else, you tell us what it is. This is just pandering of the first order.

No wonder he knows they're dangerous!! (What passes these days for intelligence...)
sry-did NOT mess
Why is it that Joe Biden is the first in his family ever to go a university? Why is it that my wife . . . is the first in her family to ever go to college? Is it because our fathers and mothers were not bright? . . . Is it because they didn't work hard? My ancestors who worked in the coal mines of northeast Pennsylvania and would come after 12 hours and play football for four hours? It's because they didn't have a platform on which to stand.
The kos is expected to have these results. They are idiots.
The only reason this idiot gets reelected is the same reason that Ted Kennedy gets reelected PORK.
What do Biden, coal, and corn syrup have in common?
Coal and corn syrup have their place in today’s world.
This idiot has been in the Senate since 1972 (the year I was born). It’s time for Biden to be put out to pasture.
The US occupation 20 votes - 83 %
Sectarian violence 1 vote - 4 %
Foreign terrorists 0 votes - 0 %
Wow! can you say delusional?
Huh? Please explain.
Ditto to what you said.
Here’s the “illogical” part:
Biden: Coal is most likely to contribute to the death of the average American.
Rush: Biden is nuts. I saw a big ship filled with coal from overseas.
The non-issue part is that it’s shoptalk between two libs.
Coal and corn syrup could make a tremendous bomb. If the Islamists take Biden’s idea and run with it, all of lower Manhattan might get sticky. ;)
Actually, he’s right. Count the number of Americans that have died as a result of terrorist attacks in recent years, including American troop casualties, and that number is probably less than the number of deaths due to coal pneumoconiosis in the same period. Plus, HFCS is very likely a contributor of excessive reactive carbonyls in our bodies, which are a major cause of diabetes. Diabetes is growing in epidemic fashion, and not coincidentally because of the exponential explosion in the amount of HFCS being used in soft drinks and many other foods.
That is not to say terrorism is not a significant threat in the U.S., but (so far, at least) it hasn’t killed nearly as many Americans as black lung disease and diabetes.
If you've ever seen them in person, they're really bad. You're first thought -- anyone's first thought -- is bound to be, "He's a U.S. senator, couldn't he afford a better doctor than that?"
No he's not, because that wasn't his real point. He was using a debatable connection between coal dust, corn syrup, and mortality as a justification for federal intervention in those areas. We can choose to drink Coca Cola or not, as we like; we can choose to work in a mine or a coal fired power plant, or we may choose not to. I don't want the government making those choices for me. I have the absolute right to make the "wrong" choice of where I work or what I drink. I neither need nor want the government's "help" in making those decisions. OTOH, we have no choice if we are unlucky enough to be the victim of a terrorist. I do need, and expect, the government's help in that department.
