Why oppose competition?

Why assume someone born here is of necessity superior to someone not so fortunate as to their birthplace?

The point is this. Mexican truckers come here and earn income. Do they spend it here? No. They spend it back home. Does that help our local communities? Does it support the local tax base to help schools, local municipalities, states and the federal government?

When this gets going, there will be tens of thousands of truckers earning income that won’t be spent, for the most part in the U.S.

If you spend a dollar, that dollar pays someone elses salary. That person spends his dollar and another person works. It is estimated that for every dollar spent in the U.S. some $1 to $3.50 is generated into the economy. There’s a term for this and at the moment it escapes me. It is an important dynamic that a lot of people don’t think about.

Wow, who's assuming that? Please show where that was stated? No one is saying American's are superior. All anyone says is if you come to America, you better be legal because there are people all over the world paying their dues, waiting their turn in line. NO ONE gets to shove their way to the front of the line in front of everyone else who is doing it legally.

Why oppose competition?

This goes a lot deeper than simply opposing competition.

Why assume someone born here is of necessity superior to someone not so fortunate as to their birthplace?

That statement is baloney on multiple levels. It is founded on the same "reasoning" that says we oppose illegals simply because they are Hispanic. Is it wrong to oppose TB ridden illegals because they are [by virtue of having poor medical care] less fortunate than we? No, it is not.

Should I assume that I am better than someone because I am fortunate enough to have been born in a country with decent health care & education? No. I am not "better", but I certainly don't owe it to them to be dragged down to their level. That improves nothing.

There are numerous pitfalls in this trucking business. We owe it to ourselves to protect ourselves. Period.

"Why oppose competition?"

No one opposes competition...the core issue is that the sovergnty of the Country is being compromised for global and regional trade efforts.

When you directed this at the other poster, were you implying or suggesting this is a racial issue?

Lets say there are two drivers that drive trucks, you enter our country making 5 dollars per hour, and the American driver is making $24 per hour with benefits. How exactly is this type of competition good for the American driver?

We know the greedy out there like your low wage peasant salary with no benefits. But how does this help the American driver?

American "superiority" (your word) isn't racial, as you are weakly attempting to insinuate. It is professional superiority, and it is born of our free market, our educational system, our legal system, our workplace training, and our national pride in working hard and getting the job done the right way.

The only way to compete with a second rate economic power is to lower yourself to that second rate economic level and work for less . I’m with the Teamsters on this, as it affects ALL American truckers , not just the Teamsters .

I don’t want the U.S. to become like Mexico, do you ?

Free trade isn’t .... It has a cost ...

Superiority is not the issue.(Where'd that come from, anyway) I'm no expert on this issue, but two points come to mind. 1: Mexican trucks are not always maintained to American road standards. 2: Mexican drivers have given us little cause to believe that they understand or respect our rules of the road.

"Why assume someone born here is of necessity superior to someone not so fortunate as to their birthplace?"

They are superior. I apologize to nobody and the facts speak loudly.

The American (US) and British dominated civilization is the greatest the world has ever known. ONLY my neighbors and fellow citizens protect and propogate those values. they exist nowhere else in the world. Foreigners who come to suck from our society, and not join it, destroy those values.

No more apologies. Multiculturalism is devastating Western civilization. I defend my country.

Every free nation, democracy, exists today because of the USA, (and UK) directly of indirectly.

The average life span of a world citizen has increased by over 50% over the last 150 years because of the US and UK, who not only led the world in the development of technology, medicines, agriculture and food but because of their Christian CHARITY they have spread it worldwide. In some nations it has doubled!

No other culture in the history of mankind has been so generous, so productive and so respectful of human rights.

Americans have died, by the 100's of thousands, so that other nations can be freed and their citizens adopt democratic governments that protect civil rights.

Americans ended slavery, which still is widespread throughout parts of the world that have not adopted American values. Americans established a Constitution to protect individual rights. Americans established freedom of religion.

Americans and UK industrialized the world.

They propagated economic capitalism which created wealth to reduce poverty worldwide. never have the poor been so wealthy, in general, though there is surely still much too much abject poverty where American values have not reached. But Western civilization, more than any other, has been reaching into other countries to educate their people, feed, them, educate them, set up their own infrastrucutres, and democratic governments.

We can not be truly free people until all of our neighbors are free.

The peoples of the rest of the world know of the gre4aness of Americans and American society, and they are risking their lives by the millions to invade and migrate INTO this fantastic civilization. I am proud of the American traditional values and culture. I believe it to be superior in every way that is important to me. It is the culture that is that advances Western Civilization and is the foundation of protestant Christianity 9which is the foundation of American traditional values, not Catholicism)

Yes, Americans are a superior people. The greatest people ever in the history of mankind.

While the facts are clear, I do not need to resort to them. I do not need to justify my love of country, my love of American values or my love for people who wish to share themselves with us by immigrating to this country and living with us, instead of coming and skimming and spitting on us, and returning to their hell-holes.

I make no apologies to anybody. I am free. free to love family, and Americans.

Truth, justice, Jesus Christ and the American way. Never has humanity benefited so much from one nation. A nation of people with common values and basic Christian values, such as individual rights, charity, truth, honor, unselfishness, integrity and belief in higher callings.

No apologies buddy, Americans are superior...and you absolutely know it.

Americans are a great people. And I welcome you to come join it, add to it, advance it, but as a neighbor not as a foreigner who comes to isolate themselves and attack American society.

The playing field isn't level. It isn't competition if the game is rigged.

Uh... have you ever talked to a guy who has worked on Mexican trucks?

I have.

In Mexico, the safety regs we have on our trucks basically don’t exist. Here, your GVW had better be 80,000lbs and under unless you have an over-weight permit and are on the roads designated for over-weight loads.

In Mexico, they load trucks until the frames, tires or axles fail. Then they back off and decide that the load just below component failure is the maximum load of the truck.

Safety inspections? Ha. They don’t need no stinkin’ safety inspections.

Log books? Maximum road time? Log book checks? Pfah. None of that.

The reason why American truckers are superior is that they adhere (in the majority) with state and federal laws.
