Former Presidential Candidate Gary Bauer Demands Apology From MoveOn.Org for Attacking Petraeus

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Former presidential candidate Gary Bauer condemned on Monday an ad campaign by MoveOn.org in which General David Petraeus is ridiculed. Especially at this time of war, "accusing our generals of betraying us is despicable," Bauer said.

The chairman of the Campaign for Working Families made the following statement:

"General Petraeus has devoted his entire adult life to honorably serving and protecting our country. He has been sent to Iraq to secure our victory in a war against vicious terrorists who desire our deaths. Now a left-wing political outfit has the audacity to call him 'General Betray Us' in a full-page ad that is being run in today's New York Times. The ad accuses Petraeus of 'Cooking the books for the White House' and goes on to state, 'General Petraeus is a military man constantly at war with the facts.'

"MoveOn.org has every right to disagree with the administration and its policies. But our nation is at war and accusing our generals of betraying us is despicable. This is a disgusting smear against our men and women in uniform and it has no place in our political discourse. I call on every politician, Democrat and Republican, to denounce this ad and to demand an apology from MoveOn.org to our heroes in uniform. I especially hope to hear from those individuals hoping to become Commander in Chief. Candidates seeking the moral authority to send our young men and women into combat should not be aligned with political outfits that are disparaging them."

Would that some bold reporter would ask the Dem candidates their opinion of MoveOn after that ad. I think they would spontaneously combust.

Every republican should demand an apology from these people (and the N.Y. Times) for trashing a good man's name.

I’ll bet the New York Times wouldn’t allow such an attack against a good marxist foot-soldier like Clinton et al from inside their irrelevant rag.

Can't wait until this stinking distributor of compost closes it's doors.

Bauer is right to demand an apology, regardless of how realistic that is.

A mocking gimmick like “General Betray-us” is a blatant example of the lefists’ stupidity: in their atrophied cerebra, sophomoric bumper-sticker slogans always take precedence over logic and substance.

My only argument was even mentioning moveon.org. He should have rightly addressed the Democrat party for the offense, in that moveon.org is just a proxy for the Democrat party.

As such, he should have given a long list of the leaders of the party, by name, who should apologize for the statements of their “house organ”.

And along with their apology, he should demand that these Democrat leaders require moveon.org to retract its statements.

Well, Gary, don’t hold your breath. That communist-based organization Moveon.org won’t apologize.

Not only are they communists but they are not mentally mature, are too morally bankrupt, and their egos are too fragile to even make an attempt at an apology. In other words, they’re too pathetic to apologize!

CORNYN: DEMOCRATIC LEADERS IN CONGRESS SHOULD CONDEMN MOVEON.ORG ATTACK ON GENERAL PETRAEUS

WASHINGTON—U.S. Sen. John Cornyn, a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, this morning called on the Democratic leadership in Congress to condemn the full-page advertisement that appeared this morning in the New York Times suggesting that General David Petraeus is a traitor.

“Every American, including a Washington special interest organization like MoveOn.org, has the right to voice their opinion on the Iraq war. But to suggest that the four-star General leading the fight against al-Qaeda in Iraq has ‘betrayed’ his country is abhorrent.

“General Petraeus has dedicated his life to securing American liberty and protecting his fellow countrymen. He and all who serve under him are fighting al-Qaeda in Iraq to help ensure that we do not have to fight them here at home.

“This is an important moment for the Democratic leadership, which as the New York Times Magazine reported yesterday, has been working closely with MoveOn.org to coordinate opposition to the conflict in Iraq – will Democrats in Congress stand by and say nothing as their liberal allies attack the patriotism of our military commander in Iraq or will they condemn this disgusting personal attack on his character and integrity?

“There should be a full and honest debate on the war on terror. Americans can have that debate because the brave men and women in our military have fought and died to defend that right over the years. But hateful, personal attacks that call our military leaders traitors should be condemned. It is my hope that Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi will disassociate themselves from this attack, condemn it, and cease further coordination with MoveOn.org.”

NOTE: The Politico newspaper reported Friday: “’No one wants to call [Petraeus] a liar on national TV,’ noted one Democratic senator, who spoke on the condition on anonymity. ‘The expectation is that the outside groups will do this for us.’

apology? No. Revocation of citizenship and deportation? Hell yes. They want to act like good little communists, send them somewhere they can not only practice but live their belief system. China, Cuba, and Venezuela all come to mind.

Waiting for the rest of the Republican congress and the RNC to chime in.

Getting tired of waiting for them to stand up for what is right and point to the filthy scum who insult fine Americans.

Still waiting.

Gary, no sense of you carrying the water for this administration, who has shunned you for 7 yrs. Let them bury themselves in this corrupt “Two-Party Cartel”. There are not but a handful of conservatives in Washington DC. The rest of these sniffling Republicans & the NRC are close to coconspriritors. They neither deserve a vote or your money.

Yikes. So if the dimwits really did feel that the general leading the war in Iraq was a traitor, they still would not have the cajones to state it in public ? We are lost as a nation with people such as this in leadership positions. What this really shows is that the dimwits know he is stating the truth, since they obviously have no problem with calling the Commander in Chief a liar.
