Mrs. Trooprally called me this evening to tell me that she and her husband, as well as Concretebob, saw damage along almost the entire length of the Vietnam Memorial Wall. They found this damage this morning, when they walked through the area before participating in the September 11th Freedom Walk.
Concretebob was told by a National Park Service employee that the damage was done on Friday night. There was no police report taken or written about the vandalism, apparently. And the damage was still very much there today.
Here are a few of the photos that Mrs. Trooprally took this morning...
This first one is not so noticeable, but as they walked into the center, it got worse.
It looks like the person who did this walked along The Wall with some type of container, perhaps hidden at their side so that they could squirt the oily substance without being caught in the act.
The names along the lower part of The Wall appear to have taken the brunt of the damage.
Because of the reflective nature of The Wall, Mrs. Trooprally had a tough time capturing the extent of the damage. Mr. Trooprally said that the oily substance has discolored the shiny stone, but that it has been absorbed into the more porous area where the names are etched into The Wall.
Use some Oxi-Clean. That should take it out.

Me too! If they have to replace it, then all of us have to foot the bill because of some evil scumbags.
Are there surveilance cameras at the memorials? If not, it is time to get them installed!
I wish there were something we could do this coming weekend when so many FReepers will be gathered.

There will be a price to be paid, The Black Bloc has made good their promise to damage the Vietnam Wall, there is no need for a CSI, five year Blue Ribbon panel,.. to BS this to death.
I suggest a reward fund be started to pay cash for the names of those who defaced the Vietnam Wall. Cold hard cash will buy cold hearted bastards.
This is federal property, might all Vietnam Vets & fellow Americans demand the FBI enter into the investigation and arrest those responsible?.

The length of the Wall is 493' 6". It would take a pretty stupid person to "accidentally" squirt (or dribble, or spray, or pour, or dip one's hand into a bucket of some unknown oily substance and flick handsfull of) stuff onto the Wall for 493' 6".

There has to be a security tape somewhere!!! They knew the Eagles were coming to prevent this in a few days so they struck early!
Intent and Motive have been established in the dozens of cases where these groups have vandalized other war memorials across the country.
I believe they wanted to light it on fire, my belief is it didn’t light according to plan.

these people, and I use the term loosely, need to be stripped of their citizenship and tossed out to sea.
A gas-powered edger leaking oil, or fuel, could fit the pattern of the spots observed, as far as I can tell from the photos.
Do you really want to blame some Mexican gardener for this in front of this crowd?
From the pattern on the Wall it looks to me that someone
urinated - but can’t figure the oil?
