NYT Asks: Where Are All the Gay Superheroes?
NewsBusters.org ^ | 9/7/2007 | Clay Waters

On Monday, New York Times Arts writer George Gene Gustines profiled gay novelist Perry Moore, a fervent supporter of gay rights -- for fictional comic book characters.

"Novelist's Superhero Is Out to Right Wrongs" began:

"Perry Moore has the sinewy physique and golden looks of a California surfer, but get him talking about comics, and he can out-geek the biggest fanatic. He also has the fervor of an activist when discussing the dearth -- and occasional shoddy treatment -- of gay superheroes in mainstream comic books."

Now there's a vital cause we can all rally behind!

"It is an issue close to the heart of Mr. Moore, who is gay, and he has funneled his passion into a young-adult novel. 'Hero,' published in hardback last week by Hyperion Teen, tells the story of Thom Creed, coping not only with high school, sexual orientation and a strained home life, but also with his own budding superpowers. In telling Thom's story, Mr. Moore, like some of the costumed champions he admires, hopes to right some wrongs.

"'My publisher did not shy away from my mission,' he said during a recent interview near his home in Greenwich Village. That mission is a multipart endeavor to show gay superheroes in a positive light, to learn from his experiences with his father and to give younger readers a potential role model in Thom."

Because liberal moralizing is what comic book readers are looking for.

Add Bugs Bunny. Not a super hero but how many times does he have to plant a big kiss right on Elmer Fudd's lips before he's recognized as a fag?

Some of them ARE gay. You can pick them out by their wide stance.

Does a Power Stance count?

Thor’s hammer is limping a bit and he might need Viagra or mental health treatment. Thor might just be looking for some new hottie hero-type...who excites him a bit. We haven’t had a female Viking superhero yet....maybe we could drag out some red-haired lass with 6-inch heels who swings a mean sword, named Gunnhildr. We could have her out of Frensno and working at a local Wal-Mart pharmacy. She bumps into Thor one night and suddenly discovers that she had powers the whole time...and whoops him up one side and down the other.

That and they never marry except in those special “what if” issues.)))

You certainly wouldn't want to rally in FRONT of it.

You'd be shocked. Marvel has turned into ultra left wing whack jobs in recent years. I'm not a comic book reader, but I know two people who have canceled all their subscriptions to Marvel Comics because of the far left slant in all of their stories.

Has there EVER been a religious superhero, much less one with a Christian world-view?

Isn’t the entire world of super-heroes pretty much devoid of religion?

Well, I guess DareDevil at least had some residual attachment to the Catholic Church, and Rocky Balboa paid lip service to his religious heritage although only when he was about to fight.

7th heaven was a NOMINALLY religious show where the characters still mostly had sex outside of marriage, and where BELIEVING itself was considered more important than WHAT you believed, which is why their nominally christian church had no trouble with a rabbi as a guest pastor, and they had no difficulty with their christian son taking up the Jewish faith.

Those so-called christians never ONCE seemed at all concerned that his wife might end up with an eternity in hell, because they never dealt at all with a down-side to the afterlife. In fact, the father’s near-death experiences were like some new-age fantasy.

It was still a much better show than MOST of what is on TV, but as SAD AS IT IS TO SAY, the SIMPSONS is still about the best for showing religion as a real part of people’s lives, as sick as they make it.

Another attempt at some type of multiculturalism, PC baloney and brainwashing the nation into accepting perversion as an alternative reality. One wonders whether, as Bob Novak once wrote, if homosexuals would have made more of an impression on society if they had stayed in the closet and just done their work, as just good Americans. Instead of weeping, gnashing their teeth to have their weirdness and sin be accepted as normal.

Oh GMAFB!!! You know, no one with any intelligence or compassion really gives a damn what consenting adults do with each other in private. But stop shoving this crap down our throats on a constant basis - it is tiresome, at best, and does absolutely nothing to help gays in a political sense.
