Thrown off plane for outfit deemed too skimpy

It doesn’t take much to get thrown off an airplane these days, as Kyla Ebbert found out when a Southwest Airlines employee told her she was too bare for the air. Two months later, she’s still trying to figure out what was wrong with her outfit.

In an exclusive appearance Friday on TODAY, Ebbert modeled the outfit she says she wore on the flight in question. It consisted of a snug-fitting white top with a scoop neck that stopped just short of showing cleavage.

Over the shirt was a green sweater that buttoned underneath her bosom. It was finished with high-heeled sandals and a white denim mini-skirt with a fashionably frayed hem.

It was a lot more clothing than the 23-year-old college student wears on her job as a Hooters waitress. Her mother, Michele Ebbert, said she would have told her daughter if the outfit was inappropriate.

“But her outfit is fine, Michele Ebbert told TODAY co-host Matt Lauer. “She looks like every other college girl in San Diego.”

Not according to a Southwest employee identified only as “Keith,” who approached Ebbert after she had taken her seat on the plane and was listening to the flight attendants go through their pre-departure routine.

“He told me, ‘I’m sorry, but you’re going to have to take a later flight. You’re dressed inappropriately. This is a family airline. You’re dressed too provocative to fly on this flight,’ ” she told Lauer.

“I said, ‘What part of it, the shirt, the skirt? Which part?’ “ Ebbert continued, recounting her conversation with Keith about her outfit. “And he said, ‘The whole thing.’“ I said, ‘I didn’t bring any luggage with me. I don’t have anything to change into. What can I do to make sure I can get onto that flight?’ ...”

Try the Childrensplace, they have lots of skirts with the shorts built right in. And alot of long peasants style skirts. They have a website if you don't have a local store.

Ever heard of a "thong?"

Why yes, but I know that a thong would also show through that tight a skirt, from personal experience. And I am not saying that a panty line got her kicked off the plane, but rather her attempts to avoid a panty line affected the way she dressed, either wearing a tiny thong/g string, which could be offensive considering how much we all got to see while she was on the Today Show or that she wore nothing at all. I am guessing that's why there was a problem.

I didn’t call her a whore.

Nope you didn't, nor did I insinuate that you did.

Have a GREAT day!

I'm off for some serious BBQing of some baby backs!

I’m guessing she wasn’t wearing those granny panties on the plane and that’s where the trouble stemmed from.

Southwest was wrong to do that. She’s not in a bikini or half-naked. She is, however, a bimbo and an idiot; and so is her mother. The fact that they’re on the Today Show says that much.

As if the rights of the children don’t matter? How nice!

EGPWS wrote: “Yes, if a definition of appropriate attire can be achieved and implemented to the liking of all.”

Ah. So if we cannot get everyone to agree, then anything goes?

EGPWS wrote: “That’s still her personal problem not anyone else’s.”

Personal, as in private. This isn’t private. It’s public.

EGPWS wrote: “You don’t have to “gawk” at her attire and some may “gawk” at her attire with zestful glee. So?”

So, those of us who don’t want to see that should turn away and tune out? How far do we let community standards devolve before there’s nowhere left to turn?

look where the snap of the skirt is... that’s just weird... i’m not saying it’s too skimpy... but if her shirt raised up, you would likely see butt lineage...

No, we should pass a law requiring burka apparel for all women in public via appeasement mindset.

“Tacky to wear a cutoff skirt when you’re not washing the car.”

That’s certainly the only time I wear my cutoff skirt. It accentuates my hairy legs.

Do the airlines supply earplugs?

I don't know for I have never been on a flight with Helen Thomas on board to make such a request.

Any of those women would be considered lard @sses today. Yet we’re supposed to be more obese now. Me thinks we’ve simply defined ourselves obese. I certainly don’t remember people being skinnier back in the day.

a thong would also show through that tight a skirt, from personal experience.

If you've worn a thong, and something showed through a DENIM skirt, then I've got to get a refund on my x-ray vision glasses! You could wear a pair of boxer shorts under denim and they wouldn't show through.

At any rate, lingerie notwithstanding, I think this tramp got kicked off the plane because she was after her 15 minutes of fame. And by my count, she's already used up 14 1/2 of them.

Not too often, but at times I have been blessed with such a sight. : - D

D@mn, I just need to redirect my appreciations before I am considered a societal misfit via personal thought without having to take offensive action to offend another individual.

Decisions via appropriate mindset sure is a friend to "individuals".

This incident occurred a couple months ago, even though it didn’t make MSNBC until a day or two ago. It is certainly not news in any reasonable sense; it is just T&A. There ought to be a category for that, though.

I love tall sweethearts. As long as they don’t eat too much stuff and drink all my water. Or collapse my perfectly fine bed horsing around.
