SEATTLE - Former Washington State Congresswoman Jennifer Dunn has died, her family announced Wednesday.
Dunn, 66, collapsed from a pulmonary embolism in her Alexandria, VA apartment and never regained consciousness, her son, King County Councilmember Reagan Dunn, said in a press release.
She passed peacefully surrounded by family.
Dunn, member of the House of Representaives from 1993 to 2005, representing Washington's 8th Congressional District.
On her retirement in 2005, President Bush said "She is a superb legislator and a strong leader who has stood for the best of Washington State's values and who has improved the lives of its people.
Dunn grew up in Bellevue and attended the University of Washington and Stanford University, where she earned business degrees.
She is survived by her husband Keith Thomson and their sons, Bryant Dunn, Reagan Dunn, Angus Thomson and her daughter's in-law, Jessica Dunn and Paige Dunn and two grandchildren. She will be missed by all.
This calamity can be almost always avoided. I urge all FReepers to NEVER ignore symptoms of persistent leg pain, especially if it progresses to tightness in the chest, shortness of breath, or even feelings of indigestion.
Jennifer Dunn was part of “The Generation that knew Ronald Reagan” and witnessed the collapse of the Soviet Union.
Let us hope and pray that the next generation does not forget the lessons of the history she was apart of.
Do you suppose some of them might have been?
Prayers of comfort for her family and friends. Mrs. Dunn will always be in that picture of when conservative were elected to represent the people in the people’s house.
Job well done Mrs. Dunn.
Yes, Jennifer Dunn was one of the best politicians Washington state had ever sent to Washington, but her pro-choice stance and anti-prolife activism in the Republican party kept me from supporting her. However, it is probably what enabled her to win elections in her district.
Sad to see her pass away so young.
Thanks Val.
Yes, classy was what always came to mind in thinking of her. A great lady, a decent human being, a fine public servant. Very rare these days. Rest in peace.
I just heard about this and was so shocked. It is too bad she could not have tried for a Senate seat. Though WA is moving so far to the left I suspect even a “moderate” Republican like Dunn was too far right for them. She had even been mentioned as a potential GOP candidate for VP in the past. I am sorry to hear she passed away, and at a relatively young age.
