NEW YORK -- Whoopi Goldberg started her stint on ABC's "The View" Tuesday by coming to the defense of convicted felon Michael Vick.
Just 15 minutes into the show she brought up Vick's conviction on dogfighting charges.
"You know from his background this is not an unusual thing for where he comes from," said Goldberg.
"There are certain things that are indicative to certain parts of our country."
Co-host Joy Behar seemed shocked at Goldberg's statements.
"How about dog torture and dog murdering," Behar asked.

If a white football player confessed to doing the same exact thing thing Vick did I wonder of Whoopi would make the same statement.
Yet flying the Rebel flag in the south is racist. Go figure.
“You know from his background this is not an unusual thing for where he comes from,” said Goldberg.
“There are certain things that are indicative to certain parts of our country.”

Doesn’t excuse his behavior or explain it. As far as I know, no one held a gun to his head and forced him into the dogfighting business. He was presumaby an educated guy...he should have known better.
Just wanted to give a big thanks to the whole forum and those on this thread in particular, for not posting a pic of Whoopie(!).
Thank you so much everyone!
A competition. Mind you, this is just my opinion on the differences between sports and competetions. They are all athletic endeavors that require great skill to perform at high levels. My point, if you failed to see it, was about dogfighting not being a sport.
Two people making a choice to participate.
I wonder if they’re paying her in Flooz...
"There are certain things that are indicative to certain parts of our country."
...Argghh! Messed that up. Move along...nothing to see here.
:o)
The previous View crew of useful idiots were all white. Now that there is a racial mix expect a lot more race card playing by Goldberg. I can hardly wait until they have Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton as guests on the show. Even I will watch that one, if for no other reason than to marvel at the sheer liberal buffonery that will no doubt ensue.
>Like lynchings, Ms. Goldberg?<
Ouch. Actually, my thought was, “like incest, Whoopi?”.
I wonder if old Whoop would come to Vick’s defense if he’d plead guilty to beating a woman. That’s “indicative” of the culture also.
Ew.
Not in my memory, and I'm pretty old.
A face only a whiteman in blackface could love.
You may remember her from her role in “Predator”.
She was once a very good comic.
Not in my memory, and I’m pretty old.
Perhaps your memory is fading as you grow older?
(chuckle)
Her original ‘one woman show’...which was broadcast on HBO back in the early 1980’s ‘made her career’.
It was very funny, and pointed.
I find the woman’s political point of view ridiculous, and her defense of the indefensible (as in this specific case with Vick) despicable.
Doesn’t change the fact that once upon a time she was very good as a stand up comedian.
Perhaps “throwing a cocktail frank down a mineshaft” would be more accurate.
I can say from rural North Carolina, everyone I know is disgusted by this. “Well they are just a bunch of rednecks, what do you expect” is a lame response, usually one given by blue staters.
