On the inside, a set of bathrooms at Emerson College looks like standard fare. On the outside, there are newfangled signs to ease the concerns of students who prefer not to signal that they are entering a men's or women's bathroom. The symbols are gender-neutral, a picture of a man and a woman. In response to students' pleas, Emerson has changed the signs that used to be aimed at a specific gender on 21 restrooms in campus buildings and one of the college's two dormitories. Emerson's changes, made in preparation for the upcoming school year, mirror moves by Tufts University and the University of Vermont, part of a small but growing number of universities modifying policies and facilities on behalf of transgender students. Several colleges have amended nondiscrimination policies to include gender identity, but student groups recently began pursuing more concrete changes, including gender-neutral housing, locker rooms, and bathrooms.

It’s not a pretty sight, I’d say men got nothin’ on women when it comes to being nasty.
If they can’t decide on a gender how do you expect them to pick a major.
When the first sexual assault is reported, then you’re talking HUGE liability against the school.
There could also be sexual harassment lawsuits against the school... “Hostile work environment” - forcing someone to use bathrooms with the opposite sex.
I hope their insurance plan is ready for all this. (Actually, I hope it’s not.)
This is such nonsense. I think where I get confused is this whole gender identity stuff. I understand about homosexualty a bit. But a male homoseuxal is a male, a lesbian is a woman, so none of that affects where you go to the bathroom. But this trans-whatever business is now being pushed on us. Do the trans-whatever, cross dresser whatever these people are, do they really not know which bathroom they should go to? If they don’t know which sexes bathroom they belong in, they have bigger problems than we can deal with.
Well, let's be practical about this.
What would you rather have? A transgender in their own "gender-neutral" bathroom or a transgender in your bathroom? They gotta go somewhere.
I vote for: Give 'em their own bathroom.
we need senator-neutral
Is ect short for ectoplasm?
That's all I can figure.. having consulted the dictionary, thesaurus, ETC.
***When the first sexual assault is reported, then youre talking HUGE liability against the school.***
I HOPE!
I would think this applies only to one-holers. However the article mentioned an example of two women feeling uncomfortable in a restroom which implies it relates to multi-holers. Another poorly written article. Either that or they are setting themselves up for sexual harrassment lawsuits.
Better yet: give them their own college!
Nah, "general neutral" bathrooms wouldn't be a concern to someone who's clearly not interested in the opposite sex.
I am sorry but I want separted bathrooms by gender. Mens bathrooms are more nasty and smell worse. Sorry guys they just do.
That would be eck-cetera. Not really, just a typo.
You ain’t walked into our bathroom after the wife has left.
Is this one of those places where you have to know how to use three shells in order to use the facilities?
We had these mandated to our building over 20 years ago by the administration. What happened was the women absolutely hated the idea that men were using the same restroom, so after 3 weeks of complaining we wound up delegating which restrooms were exclusively for women and which were for men even though the signs said otherwise. The first thing you learned when you were hired was which bathroom to use.
Just a pet peeve of mine.
Almost as bad as folks who write "opps" instead of "oops".
I mostly can not turn on radio or TV without feeling assaulted.
I deliberately do not go out much...the manners of people, their aggressiveness, their lewd dress and body language, their vulgarity, the militant homosexuals, the militant anti-Americans, moronic young ones -- black and white -- with their trousers falling off and their obscene rap music, the world "bazar" that my quiet community has turned into, the spoiled brats of all stripes who now swagger down the sidewalks with the confidence that they own the joint...it was always with us but it now dominates most public spaces.
I know that I am part of a small minority. But even so, there must be a few million of us.
I would guess that eventually some among that number who are "mad as hell and not going to take it anymore" might "act out" in some rather dramatic ways.
