This time I hope the Ninth U.S. Circuit Court rules in favor of the American People.

It’s bad enough that our borders are wide open to foot traffic, now we are inviting truck loads of whatever whoever wants to pack into a semi.

I’m reminded of an event that happened the other day at one of the businesses I deliver to. They had just painted the stairs to where us drivers enter the dock area. There had been to orange cones placed in front of the bottom stairs with some caution tape between them. There were three ‘wet paint’ signs attached to the door, and the cones. Low and behold there was one driver who backed up to the dock, jumped out of the truck and fell over all the obstacles blocking the entrance. When Jim the dock worker started asking him why he did not follow the signs, the driver seemed confused. He couldn’t read English.

I always get concerned when the 9th Circus and American People appear in the same sentence. Their diametric opposition to anything good for America has been their hallmark.

We can only hope for reason. Maybe their dislike for the current administration will cause them to give us a reasonable decision.

This article does not say the Mexican trucks are exempt from inspection at the border and it does not say that substandard trucks will be allowed: The article says

The government responded that the project will satisfy all congressional requirements, while requiring Mexican carriers to pass pre-certification inspections and comply with the same requirements as American truck drivers.

Although I’m all for keeping the mex truckers out the whole situation makes me smile a bit. A couple of years ago on a thread discussing overseas outsourcing and the flow of tech jobs out of the U.S. a couple of posters admonished those who were outraged that these jobs were being sent out of the country that the companies had every right to save money by doing the work overseas. They told those who were concerned to find a new occupation like they were in, interstate transportation of goods. Their idea was that they were safe because you can’t transport goods in the U.S. from foreign roads. Now that the prospect of foreign trucks and truckers driving on U.S. roads and undercutting their businesses is about to become reality I wonder what they think of outsourcing now.

It was reported on one of the news channels yesterday (Glenn Beck or Lou Dobbs?) that only one out of every ten trucks coming accross the border will be inspected. Ten percent - at the most. My first thought was, “Well, the coyotes will now become big-rig drivers.” I can just hear the talk between them, laughing at how much more money they are going to be making. (Not to mention the drug smugglers.)

It will be interesting to see who Bush goes to work for after his term is over. Bush’s relentless pushing of active foreign involvement in our country (Dubai ports deal, immigration amnesty, Mexican trucks deal, etc) just makes me wonder where he will end up.
