Welcome Congressman Duncan Hunter - LIVE Thread (virtual Free Republic press Conference)
From San Diego, CA | 8/13/07 | Duncan Hunter/Freepers

Posted on 08/13/2007 1:24:44 PM PDT by pissant

To members of Free Republic and friends, I would like to introduce a candidate for President of the United States and the current congressman from the 52nd district of California, Duncan Hunter!! To Americans who value the patriotism and missions of our Armed Forces, to those who want to put fear into the hearts of our adversaries from Beijing to Tehran, to those who value the rule of law when it comes to illegal immigration, to those who realize that the unborn deserve full legal protection beginning at conception, to those who believe Peace through Strength is far more than a motto, to those who do not like giving communist China unfettered access to our markets while they cheat at every turn, to those who want to halt and reverse losses of US sovereignty to global entities, and to those who want the GOP to return to Reaganism, Mr. Hunter is the Best choice.

Congressman Hunter currently is the ranking Republican on the Armed Services Committee, after spending the previous 4 years as its chair. He is an original co-sponsor of the Fair Tax bill and he is the author of the Secure Borders bill, signed by President Bush in 2006, which mandates 800+ miles of double fence across the smuggling corridors of the SW. He also is the man who has led the fight against NAFTA’s Mexican truckers having free reign on our roads, has forced congressional oversight of the executive branch’s ‘Security and Prosperity Partnership’ with Canada and Mexico, and was instrumental in saving our military intelligence officers from having to jump through bureaucratic hoops unrelated to combat.

A Vietnam combat Veteran himself, he currently has a son in the Marine Corps, Capt. Duncan Duane Hunter who is busy hunting jihadis in Afghanistan after two tours in Iraq. Congressman Hunter has been the anti-dote to the liberals in Congress doing their damndest to cut and run from the battlefield. Mr. Hunter knows that this war is our generation’s calling, and “the only way we can leave is to WIN”.

Below are 15 questions we compiled last month on Free Republic, which we sent to Congressman Hunter a few weeks ago. They are followed by his answers. This is the springboard we will use to kick off Mr. Hunter’s live “virtual press conference” on FR today.

Please stop by and say hello and you may post additional questions. HOWEVER, Please realize that time limitations will prevent him from answering all the questions you may have. Though he may get time later to forward answers to many left unaddressed during this session.

Please drop Jim Robinson a note of thanks as well. For not only hosting this event, but for having the best conservative website in the country!

Also, no disruptors allowed. Your posts will be removed.

The following is our Kickoff Q&A session:

Thank you,
I hope he will be active in his support.

Thank you both for making this exciting exchange possible. And I thank Rep. Hunter for being with us. Will he be able to answer some of our unanswered questions, or is that it? In any case, great job, gentlemen!

Here’s the remainder of the list REASONS TO SUPPORT HUNTER:

1) He is the most conservative candidate in the race. He has a 92% lifetime rating, American Conservative Union.

2) He is the “National Security” candidate. He served with the 173rd Airborne and the 75th Army Rangers in Vietnam, and was, most recently, the Chairman of the Armed Services Committee in the House of Representatives. Duncan Hunter knows defense.

3) He is a strong supporter of missile defense.

4) He’s a strong supporter of Israel.

5) He was responsible for building the fence along the Mexico-U.S. border in San Diego. That double fence — that fence cut smuggling (people and drugs) over 90%.

6) He opposes the McCain-Kennedy Amnesty bill in the Senate.

7) He is a co-sponsor of the Fair Tax.

8) He was the co-sponsor of a bill that would require a 2/3 majority in Congress to raise taxes.

9) He is a strong proponent of fair trade and will fix some of the bad trade deals that have been made by previous administrations in order to keep high paying jobs in America.

10) He pledges to appoint originalist judges like Antonin Scalia.

11) He has a 100% Pro-Life rating from National Right to Life.

12) He believes that marriage is between a man and a woman. He supports a Constitutional Amendment to protect marriage.

13) He is a strong defender of the 2nd Amendment who has an A+ National Rifle Association rating.

14) He supports school choice.

I’d say he’s all about ACTION!

“How do you propose to do that outside of protectionist tariffs and other measures that backfired during FDR’s years?”

This was my question too. Smoot-Hartley tarrifs and other protectionist policies were a disaster! Free trade boosts American jobs.

I feel one of the biggest stumbling blocks in our party and with many of our candidates is we spend our time preaching to the choir instead of taking our message to the masses, if you will.

That's because the left has dominated the modes of taking messages to the masses -- not just news media, but TV shows, movies, magazines... it's a lack of ability, not of will.

There also needs to be more support for those who do try to create new avenues -- bloggers, independent film makers, etc. The anti-left seems to not have the "free" time to be as active as the enemy, doesn't have the same types of connections, and is less comfortable with "the new".

Then again, if the media was at the very least truly balanced, this would all be moot.

Here, a paragraph from a great article:

One of the methods of preventing the growth or power of a movement is to not report its existence or report it from a view of subtle ridicule. Centralized news reporting has the capacity to confer an aura of credibility and legitimacy through emphasis or tone in reporting, or to deny credibility or even existence through deemphasis or manipulation of tone in reporting. Journalism has the ability to create a sense of isolation within a political or social movement, or to create a sense from the outside that a sociopolitical movement is an isolated aberration relative to the culture. On the other hand, journalism can magnify the sense of spirit and momentum of a movement.

Re: Ron Paul: Don't bother. I like him. Then again, I'm not a Republican.
