If you know how the Ames straw poll works--all you need is to be over the age of 18 and buy a ticket to attend (you don't even have to be an Iowa resident, I don't think)--you'll realize that it only means that Mitt Romney was able to buy more tickets for his people than anyone else.

Incorrect, you had to be an Iowan to vote. Also, nobody can really buy votes when there is a secret ballot. None of those providing free tickets could control how the people would vote once they were in the booth.

If you want to know how Romney turned out four thousand voters, ask yourself what tightly organized group he belongs to. (not a criticism of that group, I admire their organization)

Thanks, Walter for access to the speech, I really appreciate it. This was a great opportunity for Hunter to get his message out and I think he did that quite well. I agree, some of us here seem a little dispirited and I can understand that. This was nothing more than a fundraiser for the Iowa Republican Party. It is an auction of sorts and the votes go to the highest bidder. Mitt outbid the rest and in the end this was just one more meaningless poll. When the real votes are cast and Duncan doesn’t do that well, that is when I will begin to worry and not until then. If any of you still have the blues as of my posting, go back and watch Walter’s video of the ABC debate on Sunday. The segment where Hunter turns and faces Paul, as Hunter is speaking about Iraq, should cheer us all up. Hunter is practically speaking into Paul’s ear and Paul is head down over there, fidgeting around doing his “rainman”. “Yeah, yeah definitely got to get out of here, 10 minutes till Wapner, yeah definitely unconstitutional war, tower 7, 5 minutes till Wapner.

No, that's right. He's no song-and-dance man like some of the others, celebrity types. He's an Army Ranger, a one-woman man, and he'll keep his word. He's as close as we can get to the embodiment of everything good about America in a politician.

And he will have my unwavering support to the very end, $100 a month.

You're suggesting that Romney bused in a bunch of Mormons, and that's how he won?

I suppose Huckabee bused in a bunch of evangelicals, and Brownback brought in some nuns and priests?

Or do you only mean to smear Mormons? Are they the only religious group devious and underhanded enough to pull off this feat of political skill?

It's a Mormon conspiracy. Right in the Iowa heartland. Where's Governor Boggs when you need him?

Hunter must be doing something right...alot of FRedbots on this thread with their panties in a twist.
Well I like Duncan Hunter a lot, actually.
I wanted him to place at the top of the one percenters.

I think he's one of the few candidates of any real substance, and unlike a lot of the guys on the GOP stage, he has a concise, serious, and articulate presidential projection.
However, for whatever reason he just cannot catch on.
Perhaps because he talks too much substance and not enough hyperbolic red meat, hollow platitudes, and sloganeering soundbites.

Anyways, no Duncan Hunter for you.
The notion that Hunter is any threat to Thompson at all is laughable.
How can a guy who gave it his best and still lost to him when he didn't even show up be any sort of threat?
Get real for just one second.
Hate to break harsh reality to you, but Duncan is over before he really began.
This is the beginning of the end for him.
He'll be out of the race within a few weeks at the most.

You might as well get behind Fred before Mitt or Rudy runs away with the nomination.

Hunter’s performance in a conservative vanity poll was pathetic.

Yes, and that means what exactly? You just said it was a vanity poll and then described someone's performance as pathetic. Did you read that statement before you hit the post button or are you doing a parody?

They certainly were. Also scanning ID’s and inking your thumb to prevent double voting.

Here's the answer to my question about military experience.

I color coded them, pre-1900, 1900-1950, 1950-present: in

Presidents with no military experience
* John Adams
* Thomas Jefferson
* John Quincy Adams
* Martin Van Buren
* Grover Cleveland
* William Taft
* Woodrow Wilson
* Warren Harding
* Calvin Coolidge
* Herbert Hoover
* Franklin Roosevelt
* Bill Clinton

(Attribution Source)

According to this source, Bill Clinton is the only Cold War or post-Cold War President with zero military experience. Draw your own conclusions...

We’ll see how ol’ FRed’s record holds up once he’s come out from hiding behind Hannity’s skirt.

If the sheeple won't get behind the media-annointed front runners Guilani and McCain, then maybe they can be stampeded behind Fred. Heaven forbid that the sheeple should think for themselves and vote for a real conservative like Duncan Hunter.

Boy are you wound up! But you’re wrong. Duncan Hunter will be the winner when the wheat is separated from the chaff. He is the best of the best.

Patience. Just do the right thing, not the popular thing at the moment. Keep supporting Duncan. He has stated he’s in this for the long haul, and his supporters ought to reciprocate that. The constancy alone will help him and his message.

Here’s what pissant posted last night about the results for today;

Hunter will not do all that great. He has been campaigning there for all of 8 days. Others have been there for months. But it won’t matter. The real surge of grassroots support is going to Hunter. He is in it all the way and he is in it to win. ANd I see some very positive dynamics happening.

No doubt about that....I certainly wouldn’t vote for any of the “top tier” RINOs, just because some talking head on the evening news says they won a poll.

It will be interesting to see a breakdown of money spent and the amount each “vote” cost each of the campaigns.

Thanks for the info, and it’s easy to draw the conclusions. :)
