Prayer Request - Gravely Injured Marine Sergeant [Update at Post 439]
August 6, 2007 | Albion Wilde

Posted on 08/06/2007 1:57:21 PM PDT by Albion Wilde

The family of U.S. Marine Sgt. Samuel Nichols is urgently requesting prayer support as they surround Sam, age 23, at Bethesda Naval Hospital. He is in a coma after having suffered a brain injury due to an IED on a mined road in Iraq. The explosion killed three of his men.

Sgt. Nichols was so gravely injured that when he arrived at Bethesda last week, doctors initially held out little hope; but his family began praying immediately and are seeing improvements and hopeful signs this week.

Sgt Nichols' family are believing Christians who are in prayer constantly over him, believing in the Word of God and His promises. Many offers of prayer have reached them; that being the case, all of you who want to join this thread will be a part of a widespread prayer covering for this young man, his loving wife, Erin, his parents and extended family.

He is considered a top-notch Marine. The very name Samuel Nichols is the same as the first Commander of the Marine Corps. This was his third deployment to Iraq. One of his former commanders who is now in DC has stopped by to look in on him. Also last week, a Lieutenant General who is second in command of the Marine Corps came by to award the Purple Heart.

A friend of a friend of his family contacted a member of the DC Chapter whose son had undergone a miraculous recovery from a coma. She forwarded this request to us FReepers for prayer support for Sgt. Nichols, having experienced first-hand the awesome prayer energy that surrounded her son as he fought back to recovery.

"For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them."
—Matthew 18:20

Prayers continue for the sergeant and his family: Jesus please let the family feel you holding them up. And thank You Jesus that You sent some of the Body to the family, to the sergeant’s bedside to express Your love in physical, tangible ways. Thank You that they were willing and were allowed to “gown up” to be with the sergeant. Thank You that even though I get tired and forgetful, You never do. Grant the family strength and faith to deal with this trial and please grant this young man a full recovery. In all things be glorified Father. I’m asking in the name of the Messiah!

For Sgt. Sam Nichols, his loving wife Erin, and his family:

May the Lord Jesus hold you all close in his loving arms and bring healing to Sgt. Sam by His matchless healing nail scared hands so that a complete and total restoration take place all through Sgt. Nichols body and brain. Lord Jesus, I ask that every nerve fiber, every sinew, every muscle be knit back together in wholeness, and every bone be made whole with the Master’s touch.

My husband and I are praying fervently for Sgt. Sam as we did our own Sgt. son who was also wounded while in Iraq by an IED explosion. We are praying Sgt. Sam as if he were our own son. May the Lord bless all of you for also serving as a loving family that hope and prays. We have known how very hard it is to have a loved one in harms way, but Jesus somehow buffers it and gives more grace for the families that have the Blessed Hope.

Thank you Sgt. Sam for your service to this great nation and for your family that is trusting in Jesus Christ with healing in his hands. May He also hold close the families of the ones that have lost their lives serving their country with honor.

We will continue to pray for all of you until light breaks through and Sgt. Sam is made whole.

With loving regards and Jesus love,
From a family who also serves

God bless you and your son, Mom. It goes without saying that everyone on this thread is mindful of all the brave Marines and other troops who have made these sacrifices. May your son's healing be a testament to God's mercy.

Sgt. Nichols Update 3: August 16, 2007

Dear FRiends,

Sending a big thank you to you who have signed on since our last update, and to all of the prayer warriors who have already been here to lift up Sgt. Nichols and family.

We continue to pray for Sam Nichols' recovery. He is still in a coma, although his wife Erin sees new movements in his face and his uninjured leg. Doctors were going to operate on his injured arm this week, but have delayed because he was running a temperature and having some infection and other reactions to the treatments. But Sam's breathing on his own remains strong, so that his endotracheal tube has been removed — praise God!

Last Sunday was Sam's birthday, on which he actually turned 23 — he was just shy of his 23rd birthday when wounded. His mother and brother were there with Sam and Erin. Sam's mom brought a cake that was shared with the medical staff. Other friends living or stationed on the east coast have been coming by or calling, and the numerous prayer chains originated by his family and their congregations on the west coast are buzzing.

Very dear FR prayer warriors, let's lift this family up tonight and tomorrow especially, and every time you pray until we update again.

Precious Lord,

We praise Your eternal goodness, grace and generous provision for Sam Nichols, as well as all Your servants here in earnest prayer for him and his family.

We thank you, precious Lord, for the visible evidence of improvements in Sam's breathing and responses, and we thank you in advance for the invisible workings of the Spirit in every fiber of Sam's being.

We plead the blood of the Lamb over this man's mind, his heart, his body, his soul, his wife and family, and the men he left behind in combat. Fill them, Lord, with complete faith in You to turn this situation miraculously to Your purposes.

We thank you, Father, for the understanding minds and dedicated hearts of Sam's medical team. Guide each of them, we pray, in every decision, large or small.

Whether Sam rests or whether he awakes; whether he feels pain or is shielded from pain; whether he is aware or asleep in order to heal; we trust that Your Providence, Your headship, Your direction and Your wisdom pervade every aspect of Sam's care, through the never-failing presence of the Holy Spirit.

We ask for strength and the peace that passes understanding for Sam's wife, his mother, his father, his uncle, and every other person whose heart is in constant prayer for Sam.

We thank you for the mysterious chain of connections among Your faithful that has brought together Sam's family, friends, fellow Marines and prayer warriors across the nation and around the globe. Attune us as one congregation, Lord, to keep Sam covered in prayer around the clock.

In the Name above all names, Jesus Christ, we pray,

Amen!

He hath made every thing beautiful in his time:
also he hath set the world in their heart,
so that no man can find out
the work that God maketh
from the beginning to the end.
—Ecclesiates 3:11
