Accountability finally came to Durham County District Attorney Michael Nifong last month, when he was disbarred as an attorney and forced to resign as a disgraced public officer. Last week he issued an apology and a full retraction of the rape accusations against three Duke University lacrosse players.
Now, with students heading to Duke in just a few short weeks for the beginning of the fall term, the time is at hand to demand some accountability for Nifong's academic enablers.
Eighty-eight members of the Duke faculty publicly promulgated a dreadful letter, enflaming a premature and prejudicial atmosphere against their own students. Yet, their conduct is largely shielded from accountability. Equally troublesome, their ironically and suddenly protective university masters executed a confidential settlement to further immunize the Duke cabal from civil liability exposure.

If the one I found is the one Professor Johnson calls an apology, you were close, Math not Physics.

The ridiculous thing about this whole situation is, if it had been the Basketball team it would of been dropped without charges in the first week.

Only three teach anything that sounds even remotely useful for real life.Which means 85 warm bodies out of 88 only exist for the money.

Looks like Duke needs to clear out the English, History & Philosophy departments.

I’m deeply saddened to see two math and a physics professor on the list.

Romance Studies includes the Romance languages and literatures—French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese. What’s troubling is that a legitimate area of study has been infested with politics to the point where the courses probably aren’t worth taking. The same with English and History.

I'm sure that their letter (and signatures) is on the record somewhere.
Does anyone have a link to it?
Those names should be spread far and wide.

Romance Studies
That’s an encompassing term for the Romance (Latin derived) Languages and Literature: French, Italian, Spanish and Portuguese.

My son is no longer seriously considering Duke. What a disgrace.

One, maybe two real science professors among them. Why am I not surprised?
Even the sciences have an occasional nutburger... Still, 2.3% of the total as (theoretically) thinking humans is quite modest.

The one who aren’t “tenured” should just be fired. Those who are should be finessed out on something like the “moral turpitude” clause for slander, libel or whatever can be made to stick. In short, screw ‘em all by whatever means available and necessary and then go after them individually in the civil courts and recover from their professional liability insurance carriers or even their homeowners’ insurance where many may have a “million dollar umbrella” for certain liabilities.

Were we all counting to see how many of these morons taught anything that was productive in the real world?
I know I was..lol

Nearly all of the people on the list are from departments that have courses as basic requirements for a BA. Why else would there need to be dozens English/Social (non)Science/Focused Studies/Language profs with too much time and self-importance? Aside from a couple kooky math and physics instructors, a person who really wanted to benefit from a Duke education shouldn't need to come into contact with them.
However, if your goal is to become unemployable with a BA in Romance Literature and minor in Sociology, you are pretty well doomed to becoming one of them...

Logic is besides the point. "..he that filches from me my good name, robs me of not that which enriches him and makes me poor indeed" is easily understood in the soft sciences. Write. Make them uncomfortable.

I thought that math and physics profs were supposed to analyze data and apply logic to solve problems.
