I have a very serious concern for consideration by this thread.

After Bill’s slander is FreeRepublic now a hate site? Should I stop Freeping from work?

The PC managers don’t know anything about anything but if they get the impression I am on a hate site, things will not go well for me.

No intent to high-jack, but this is a legitimate and serious concern to me.

Do you imagine such a status would hinge on a slander by Bill O'Reilly?

Does your IT department block ‘inappropriate’ sites like Playboy? If so, just claim that you thought all such sites were blocked, and anything else was fair game.

If they persist, strengthen your resolve and stand up for your principles...or stop surfing at work. ;-)

FreeRepublic is in no way a “hate site”. The rules of the forum, the (general) behavior of the participants, and the analytical content of the posts all militate against such hatefulness as one sees over at other sites (which shall remain nameless).

FR explicitly disallows abusive or violent posts, and has a specific mechanism for removing any posts that transgress. Further, repeated flouting of the rules has and does result in the poster being banned for their breaking the rules.

If the above doesn’t mean that FR is NOT a “hate site”, then every workplace in the US should be shut down as “hostile environments” - because I know of no such workplaces that actually encourage open and honest debate while deliberately and consistently enforcing the rules of acceptable behavior on the participants.

JMHO.

How do you justify freeping from work, at all. Are you stealing time from your employer, or it is your time? That is the distinction that governs, for the most part, whether they can tell you what to do. That and the fact that it is their computer.

Go ask the Stormfront yokels. They show up once in a while. They get their asses booted so hard and fast they are still licking shoe polish off their teeth.

Whether BOR’s slander calling FR a “hate site” makes it official or not, it probably does. I would say that whomever classifies such things will take the word of a single squawker (footnotes usually cite one single source). And you can bet that when Lanny Davis is confronted with a quote from FR he’ll dismiss it as just a hate site, and even BOR agrees, and he is a Conservative, so he must know, blah blah. One squawker. That is all it takes.

I think he said ‘no full-time monitors’.

If your managers look to BOR for direction you have bigger problems.

Tell them that the Bloviator himself has demanded that Free Republic get a full-time monitor (because of supposed "hate speech", taken out of context, of course), then show them this from HIS puny little message boards:

BILLOREILLY.COM SHALL HAVE THE RIGHT BUT NOT THE OBLIGATION TO MONITOR THE CONTENT OF THE SITE AND USE THEREOF TO DETERMINE COMPLIANCE WITH THIS AGREEMNENT.

What's good for the goose is apparently NOT good for the wealthy, bloviating hypocritical gander...

Might cost him a little bit too much of the retirement jack he's peeling off the suckers, and socking away...

;-)

It's too late, O'Reilly has notified them of your presence here and they're already on to you. You'd best start updating your resume...

I don’t know about your situation, but my situation is that BOR will never appear on my TV again. Ever. I used to watch him all the time, then it went to once in a while, and now to NEVER. Never again. I don’t care if he has the Apostle Paul riding a bicycle on a high wire over a flaming pit,I am not watching. Never.

Maybe you should stop using your time and computer at work, time and use of your work computer is money and it is the same as stealing money from your employer.

Yes. O’Reilly is stating false inofrmation. This site is heavily moderated. B.O is just another carnie reading lines on a teleprompter - ZERO cred.

If your managers are PC, all they need to find out is that FR is a conservative discussion forum. For the PC, conservative=hate. They don't need a putz like O'Reilly to tell them anything.
