Why do they have to ‘ban’ certain foods? Can’t they just provide choices? This is insanity!!

I would like to think no parent of a Scout in this country would put up with this kind of shiite.

Heck, I had a Brownie troop of 13 girls from ages 7yrs-10yrs. We went camping several times.. They were taught to pitch a tent, make a fire, cook and use a pocket knife. They loved it.

One of the Moms complained I was giving them too much responsibility with dangerous activities...and I invited the woman to withdraw her daughter from the troop. Her daughter threw such a fit that Mom relented and kept her mouth shut. No one EVER got burned, cut or died.

Most kids need to be taught to use things properly..... otherwise they learn to use it on their own ...without supervision. That's where the disasters occur......IMHO.

Spot on.

My wife was a Cub Scout Den mother and my daughter used to hang out at all the meetings. She loved it...and learned a lot.

Ya....I always worry about offending someone by my choice of foods......

Somebody ought to roll in a ‘Roach Coach’ full of beef and brawts!

When the event was originally planned the catering included all the normal campfire foods like bangers and burgers...

Do the English now make burgers that are as good as their bangers? When I visited England back in the 1960's, Wimpy's was the name of a chain of fast food restaurants specializing in hamburgers that lived up to its name--the burgers were certainly wimpy by US standards.

Later, when I was living in Germany, I became so hungry for American food that I tried to make a hamburger with a German brötschen, but it didn't quite work out. I realized what Chuck Berry meant in his song, "Back in the USA," when he sang about longing for American cafes "where hamburgers sizzle on an open grill night and day" while on a sojourn overseas.

As a young lad I actually knew Lady Olave Baden Powell (Lord Baden Powell’s widow). She lived in a “Grace and Favour” apartment in Hampton Court Palace. She was quite a sprightly old biddy for her age.

How cool! I admire Lady Baden-Powell. She really turned the old codger’s life around!

Actually British burgers are awful. They way overcook the meat. And they have some odd things, too. I went to a Burger King in England that served “bean whoppers”.

The reason I did the Brownie thing was because of my daughter. She wanted in a troop and they didn't have room for her. So I signed up and got all the stragglers ...which is why the age variations.

At the end of the year... we had our banquet with all the other troops and got our award for selling the most cookies and various other things. I found that most of the troops only had 3 to 6 girls each (by their own choice).....so we won all the awards. *chuckle*

No wonder Britain’s gone to the dogs...

Next thing you know, you’ll tell me that the Department of Education wants to have Churchill banned from the curriculum - oh wait, that’s already happened...

“The 1907 boys caught rabbits and cooked them on an open fire on Brownsea Island, in Poole Harbour, Dorset.”

Aw, those were the good old days. (I can skin a rabbit, gut it, and cook it up real nice . . . but I’d prefer someone brought it to me already dead . . . on the other hand, if I were hungry enough, I’d kill the thing in a heartbeat.)

Poole Harbour is a beautiful place, one of the largest natural harbours in Europe and a wonderful haven for yachting.

This was an international scouting festival: with visitors from 162 countries. It would be quite rude, would it not, to offer pork off the Barbecue to visitors from Israel?

With regards to banning fires. This is a huge event with thousands of tents. I don’t think the UK would be very popular on the world stage if a huge fire killed scouts from around the world.

The UK is a nation mainly of sissy-boys. With muslim and other foreign men moving in, taking their women, and taking over.

Hi GB/All.

This is another example of why stories in the Daily Mail have to be treated with great suspicion. The scare-mongering headline is completely innacurate when you actually read the substance of the article. This is an international scouting festival. People are travelling to it from around the world. With different dietary needs (such as Kosher food, a proportion of the Scouts being vegetarian etc) it is common sense that the organisers should choose the cheap option of vegetarian meals. This will mean that they don’t risk offending their international guests. This does not mean that the UK scouts have banned meat in their organisation’s normal operation. In this light, you can see, the Daily Mail article actually has no substance to it at all. It must have been a slow news day at their offices.

With regards to fires. In an event with hundreds/thousands of tents (on an Island protected by the National Trust as Britemp noted) the risk of a catastrophic fire is unaviodable. It would destroy much natural beauty and threaten to wipe out a significant portion of the world’s scouting movenment. That may put a slight dampenener on the celebrations one might think.

Some do and some don’t. The strict ones don’t.

Hundreds of years ago I was in the Boys Brigade; 9th Grimsby & Cleethorpes Company. Bible study 2 nights a week, Sunday morning church (obviously), parade afterwards, 2 weeks summer camp. If anyone in a public position had asked for changes to suit alien outsiders, they would have been kicked up the chuff so fast their colon would be at the back of their throat. I hear this stuff every single day in the papers, and each day makes me more and more aggressive torwards liberals - its got to the point where my Missus tells me to shut up about politics.

Regarding your idea for an online religion........ I like it !
As its your ‘sproggy’ as we say round here, it is only fair that you get to name this new faith. As an induction, all new adherents will have to read paragraphs from the Satanic Verses, followed by a communion meal of pig’s trotters marinated in whiskey - Irish Whiskey - having read your profile. Followers must also agree to keep a pet pig and line it’s sty with pages from th Koran. Women members must wear as little as possible, in accordance with our faith’s strict winding - up moslems custom.
