BENTONVILLE -- The father of a 17-year-old girl found his daughter's boyfriend hiding inside her bedroom closet Tuesday, beat him bloody with a pool stick, then left the room to fetch a gun. The daughter and boyfriend blocked the door with a dresser, so the father shot through the closed door, hitting the boyfriend in the back and paralyzing him, police said.
George David Reed, 48, posted a $150,000 bond and was freed from jail Wednesday afternoon as Michael Austin Guzman, 19, underwent surgery to treat a bullet lodged in his spinal cord.
Three of Guzman's vertebrae are fractured and doctors don't expect him to regain feeling or mobility below his waist, according to a probable cause affidavit released Wednesday after Reed's bond hearing. He was still in surgery Wednesday evening in Joplin's Freeman Health System, according to an intensive care nurse.
Benton County Circuit Judge Xollie Duncan set the bond Wednesday based on a request from Chief Deputy Prosecutor Shane Wilkinson. Reed was arrested on suspicion of a felony terroristic act, the most serious type of felony aside from capital murder, punishable by up to life in prison. He was also arrested on a charge of felony first-degree battery.
Defense attorney W.H. Taylor, who spent the morning consulting with his client at the jail, did not object to the bond. Reed is to be arraigned Sept. 10 before Circuit Judge David Clinger.
Taylor said that Reed has three children and lives with his wife, Sharon, at 13569 Vaughn Road near Highfill. Reed has been in Northwest Arkansas since 1962, owns a farm and rental properties, and has operated a moving and storage business since 1983.

He should have done like Al Bundy, and just slammed the guy’s head into the wall.
This is the "she said" to match the "he said."
I wonder how big this Guzman is, since it would be a pretty sturdy individual who could take multiple blows to the face from the business end of a pool cue and still be able to kick someone back and barricade a door.
Very correct---it's the wise choice here, otherwise, it might go down very badly for him. It's a shame he ruined his life and the boy's life (and probably his daughter's life just the same) over this rash decision. Passion is extremely dangerous.
Your #59.............You’re absolutely correct. You and I obviously have many shared experiences.
I think he has only one thread of hope. The fact that he shot through the door and he knew his daughter was inside MIGHT be enough to prove temporary insanity.
“I guess the father should have cracked open a beer gave it Guzman and said Hey Bucko, now thats the way to nail my daughter! And that sneaking into the house thing, after I told you not to come in without permission....classic.”
Yes, that’s obviously the only alternative to beating the crap out of him with a pool cue and then getting his rifle and firing through a closed door with it.
Well, at least the prisoner is not running away with those leg irons .... cause I dont think the guards could catch him if he did.
If the guards have daughters I’m sure that prisoner is being treated with respect.
Dad is obviously a nutcase.
However, we do not have any good solutions for deliberately defiant older teens in this country.
We dont even know if there was any hanky panky going on.
Bwuhahahahaha!!!
Her parents didn't forbid her from dating Guzman but said he could only be in the house with a chaperone. He was allowed over Saturday night to watch a movie.
The teenagers decided Guzman would come over Tuesday when her parents left. He arrived about 9:30 a.m., parking his teal Toyota Tercell down the street. Morgan drove there to pick him up. They went to the bedroom and "eventually fell asleep," (my comment "Right" /sarc) according to a probable cause affidavit filed by Investigator Jeremy Felton of the Benton County Sheriff's Office.
Her dad called just before 11 a.m. to ask how things were going, which was unusual, Morgan told police. A few minutes later, she heard her dad pull up in his truck and go into the garage. Guzman climbed into her closet. Her dad came inside asking, "Where is he?" Morgan tried to pretend nothing was unusual, but eventually pointed to the closet, court documents state.
(my comment "OK, she's already been caught lying here")
Reed opened the door to find Guzman sitting with his back to the wall. Reed began beating Guzman in the face with the pool stick. Morgan said Guzman kept saying, "Stop, I'll leave," but her dad wouldn't stop even though Guzman was bleeding, she told police.
Says the already proven liar.
Another excerpt :
In an interview with Felton, Reed said he'd warned Guzman not to come around without a chaperone. He said a friend called that morning to say Guzman's car was parked down the road.
Now the dad's story
When he entered his daughter's bedroom, he saw Morgan adjusting her clothes and the bed messy. He assumed the teenagers had sex. He opened the closet door, yelled for Guzman to get out of the house, and Guzman began kicking him in the legs, he told Felton. He admitted hitting Guzman with the pool stick.
Reed has no criminal history. The judge ordered him to have no contact with Guzman or Guzman's family. He posted his bond immediately after Wednesday's hearing; $100,000 in a signature bond and $50,000 in cash or corporate surety
All bold is emphasis mine.
“Yes, thats obviously the only alternative to beating the crap out of him with a pool cue and then getting his rifle and firing through a closed door with it.”
Respectfully, I must disagree. The civilized thing would have been to have pushed the Trunk Monkey button.
Reread the article, you missed something.
This is the “she said” to match the “he said.”
__________
Exactly right. And we each use our own preconceptions to decide which one is correct. Sorry, but a guy who admittedly beats a guy with a pool cue, and then shoots a gun through a closed door, behind which his supposedly precious daughter is standing, has lost the “he said she said” game. JMO.
Lord you got me trapped woman, up on the second floor;
If I get by this time I wont be trapped no more.
So raise your window baby, I can ease out soft and slow.
And lord, your neighbors, no they wont be
Talking that stuff that they don’t know.

“...and then shoots a gun through a closed door, behind which his supposedly precious daughter is standing, has lost the he said she said game. JMO.”
Come on, she was just a useless slut at that point.
Well winning the "she said he said" game is more about one's credibility than one's recklessness or propensity towards violence.
The daughter is demonstrably a very deceptive individual - I'm not sure if her testimony can automatically be considered more reliable than the father's.
Exactly right
Not entirely considering the daughter appears to be proven to have lied in the article itself. Also the fact that dear old dad is a solid citizen of his community is mentioned.
“Looks like they all eat well in Arkansas...”
You’ve got that right...except for the different “uniforms” all three of them could be brothers —or maybe cousins.
“He posted his bond immediately after Wednesday’s hearing; $100,000 in a signature bond and $50,000 in cash or corporate surety”
Something tells me dinner at home is going to be more than a little awkward.
