Breaking: Bridge Collapse in Minneapolis

Just turned on the news. 35W bridge collapsed in the Mississippi River. Cars, trucks, semis.....

Fires burning, tanker trucks, at least one school bus, more than ten cars......

Just now breaking.......

It could be that the road deck that was being replaced HAD BECOME critical in holding the bridge together. If rust or failure elsewhere shifted the loading factors and the deck took up the slack...then they take apart the deck to replace it. Bam, it comes down.

I just talked to my Dad. He says that about 15 years ago or so, the damn right near there failed. He is thinking that they will find that this collapse is in direct result of that from years ago.

He says there are thunderstorms coming in too and it is raining heavily in Brooklyn Park.

The good news is that there are two or three hospitals within walking distance of this disaster. The Red Cross has a building that actually is within direct view of the disaster.

 

Excellent - knew there had to be a bright spot in this somewhere.

Maybe that train derailed into one of the bridge supports? Fox is showing it with a crushed rail car or passenger car.

Millions of dollars are in play including tickets,vending,parking,TV,etc. It is hard to understand when you are part of a tragedy,but the rest of the world continues on its way.

The sudden death of my father turned our world into grief and disbelief but our neighbors still went to their jobs,etc.

It would cause more disruption to cancel the game and it would also add thousands of cars and gawkers to the mess.
