I am warning those who have not finished the series . . . and there must be still a few of them by now. . . that there are spoilers ahead. I have just finished the last book . . . having spent an enjoyable evening with it thanks to Sams Club and an indulgent wife.
I am done with Harry Potter and enjoying the literary aftertaste the way one enjoys a fine meal almost as much after it is done as when it is being consumed . . . though it is a bit sad that the series is finished.
And it is really finished . . .
Will one be able to re-read the books with pleasure?
I think the answer is only a tentative yes. If one knows the puzzles and the secrets of the book, it will not take away the charm of the characters or the fun of a good Quidditch match, but the first read will always be the best.
The strength of these books is in the plot and the second read, when everything is known, will be satisfying for finding all the clues to what happens . . . but I am hard pressed to know if I will want to re-read them a third or fourth time.
A really great book is as good on the fourth read . . . and some childrens books (Little White Horse) are better.
I deeply enjoyed the last book and thought the ending satisfying. For those who found them quite Christian, they will find much in this last book to give strength to their idea.

No actual FACTS would cut it for me. The reality is you have not listed any real occult practices that happened in the HP books. There is NO occult style automatic writing ion the books. There is NO occult style mirror moagic in the books. There is NO necromancy in the books. there is NO astral projection in the books. So those “facts” are actually LIES by you and your “sources”.
Now you’re lying again. He presents facts not opinions. He discusses the use of real historical Christian symbolism in the books, those are facts. Those symbols really were used in history to mean what he said, and they really are used in the books the way he said. FACTS. And you saying they’re just opinion is more lies from you. Stop the lies.
PM is obsessing over a fictional character in a fictional series. Does he know how silly he looks?
Once people start getting into the anagram thing that’s generally the guarantee they’re goofy. You see the same kind of thing with Nostradamus believers, they love anagraming words, and when they still can’t make his “predictions” fit they’ll start adding and subtracting letters. It’s the sure sign of trying too hard to believe.
Inferi might be considered necromancy. Since they're totally gross, just as divination is treated as rubbish, that's hardly an encouragement to readers to give it a try, though.
That was right out of a James Bond movie. I cracked up.
But we don’t actually see it. There’s just these nasty things in a lake, it’s very Dead Marshes. I don’t think anybody is going to read about Harry’s encounter with the inferi and decide raising the dead is cool.
You’re right, very dead marshes. And it’s clear that the reader is intended to be disgusted by the whole concept.
And one could argue that talking to Nearly Headless Nick is necromancy. (Or was that Nickromancy?)
Good point.
Some “occult” things are there in the stories. Even divination is there, all those prophecies stored in the Department of Mysteries. However, it’s not presented as anything nice people are involved with.
Technically no, if a ghost just shows up to start talking to you conversing with them is just being polite (these are British stories after all). Now MAKING ghosts could be necromancy but that process is unclear in the books, but it doesn’t seem to involve 3rd party party magic so that would make it not necromancy.
As for nickromancy just don’t ask him why he’s nearly headless and everything’s fine.
what is Oprah theology? ...i am under the impression from your posts that you might know something of the bible....
perhaps you know this one...
“Judge not lest ye be judged”...Matt. 7.1
or
“For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged”
Matt 7:2-5
I’m not sure but I dont think Matthew knew Oprah.
*wince* That's gonna leave a mark. (wtg)

I love the music man. :)
You know what, I have not judged a SINGLE person on this thread. “Judge not” does not mean that you are therefore to be incapable of distinguishing good from evil. As Christians, we are to hold the same standards of right and wrong as we find in the Bible.
It’s not judgmental to call occultism and homosexuality wrong.
A legend in his own mind. ;o)
ROTFL!
Exactly! Aren’t all evil dictators mostly fluff and flattery? All they’re really good at is killing.
Just perfect!
Use that picture of Gilderoy with the swirling cape, substituting John Edwards’ face!
