Hey PJ
I agree, IF they exist. I could make out most of what was on the two screen shot, and nothing like what he said they said.
No, I think it was about an actual published article which had citations from FR. Someone posted these, and I recognized something from one of my posts involving slavery reparations, IIRC. I looked through “Self-search” but couldn’t find it. It’s easy to miss stuff, though, because you get deceived by the titles.
Google search is very good at picking up quotes on FreeRepublic and no such quote exists stating “I Hate Blacks” was found from any posts
Can we have Bill O’Reilly staff turn over that quote?
That's true, but it's also only the most recent position he's taken that outed him as what he really is while hiding behind his populist mask. That may be what broke the camel's back as far as his attack on FR. He and Fox may think that we, conservatives, deserve to be punished for not being fooled by their shamnesty position. This may only be the beginning. I still say our best weapon if they want to declare war on us, is to ignore and turn off Mr. "O" and watch his ratings deflate.
Kristinn, I wish you’d volunteered to investigate those specific postings and report back.
Additionally, it would have been helpful to provide examples of threads where the “Comments have been removed by the moderator.”
Having said that, I don’t believe O’Reilly actually researched those posts himself.
His staff likely hunted down those red herrings.
Mr. O’ goes out of his way to pretend he’s down the middle, objective. To accomplish this he overstates his case in labeling FR.
I’ve been here longer than my posted history would suggest, and while the level of discourse has declined over the years, it’s not a “hatesite”!
Immortalized.....
Worth repeating!!!!!!
The image you posted clearly shows it was a post from today, however, it should be easy to track down the thread because one of the posters uses a blue footer, I've seen this around and once we find the poster who uses the blue footer, we can see what they posted today and look at all those threads..As FReeper KCJ1 posted, earlier in this thread:
Heres the thread in that screenshot:http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1874373/posts
I don’t want to out anyone, but I’ve seen the blue-footer poster around a lot and I’ve never known him to go out of line. I consider him (or her) to be something of a career freeper with enough cred to not have to make outlandish statements to get thread attention.
O’Reilly wouldn’t criticize John Kerry and was soft on Memogate...he’s been out of my sphere of influence for a long time.
You did an outstanding job in a hostile environment. Both you and Ford Jr. made the host look like a blithering idiot by citing the excellent moderation and the necessity of First Amendment freedom. O’Reilly’s insistence on suppressing that freedom for the sake of protecting the general public against “hate speech” made a man who makes his living abusing others verbally look like a total fool.
forgot to ping you to post #539 and # 559
Two reasons, imo: 1) we've been (justifiably) pretty tough on O'Blowhard through the years; 2) FR is by far the most notable conservative site in cyberspace.
Wonder if it was a setup from O’Reilly.
Good job. I have to say that you took the best approach on the air — there is no point in challengint BOR on the spot as to the veracity of his purported quotes from FR posts, but the better tack is to make clear for the benefit of the viewing public that racist posts and incitements to unlawful violence have no place on FR and violate the guidelines.
Interestingly, Harold Ford, Jr. came off far more reasonable than BOR, but he was constantly being talked over by BOR and clearly didn’t want to get into an argument with BOR.
However, Ford made a point to emphasize repeatedly his commitment to free speech and he carefully and correctly defined “hate speech” as being “incitement.” Incitement to violence has traditionally been outside the free speech rights in American law (before the recent thought-crime “hate crimes” laws). Got to give some credit where credit is due.
Me too. That was one of the most dishonest pieces I've seen for a long time, and I was absolutely astounded. Did someone on FR criticise BOR or something? Why on earth did he do this hit job?
Kristinn- Just watched the o show again and still- wow- As one poster above said- Bill o absolutely misrepresented what FR is all about and neglected to mention all the good your site accomplishes, and hte prayer requests for sick dems instead of death threats like they issue sick repubs.
Perhaps talk with Michelle Malkin about htis issue and have her get Bill to make it crystal clear to his viewers that htis site is NOT a hate site- not by a long shot, and to point out that it is a caring site where unfortunately, some foul posts make it through due to the enormity of the post count each and every hour. What O’reilly did, and what he suggested, were both dishonest, in misrepresenting what FR is about, and unreasonable, in that there is no way to expect to be able to pay the salaries of full time moderators for a private site
I just saw the “interview”. Great job, for as much as you could make of it. It would have been nice if he would have allowed you to say a couple of sentences without being interrupted. Having been a FReeper for years, I KNOW how good a job the moderators here do at keeping trash off the forums. When someone posts junk, it gets removed within minutes or gets ‘zotted’ if it meets certain ‘entertainment quality’. Obviously someone who works for O’reilly was sitting at a computer all day wearing out the F5 key, just waiting to find something objectionable to confront you with before it was removed by our good moderators.
I’ve regularly visited many many discussion boards over the years, some owned and operated by multi billion dollar corporations, and FR does as good as any when it comes to moderating the forums. Bill O’reilly doesn’t have a clue. After watching that segment, he has lost any and all credibility with me.
