Malpractice, cover-up and inappropriate treatment

Planned Parenthood of San Diego and Riverside Counties hit with another lawsuit

Claiming that Planned Parenthood negligently misdiagnosed her cervical cancer for more than a year, former Planned Parenthood patient Rebecca Glover has filed a medical malpractice suit seeking at least $2 million in damages.

Glover’s lawsuit alleges that, after performing a Pap smear, Planned Parenthood of San Diego and Riverside Counties failed to tell her the result: that the test revealed she had cervical cancer.

The suit also alleges that Planned Parenthood then tried to cover up its mistake by refusing to turn over Glover's medical records, and that Planned Parenthood gave her inappropriate medical treatment.

According to the suit, Glover did not find out about Planned Parenthood's mistake for over a year later. By the time she obtained the results, her cervical cancer had advanced to stage 3. Cervical cancer is rated by stages of severity – from 0 to 4. A stage 3 rating indicates that the cancer has advanced into the lower vagina, possibly even into the pelvic wall.

Glover’s lawsuit is the second filed against Planned Parenthood of San Diego and Riverside Counties in a month. On June 19, the mother of 21-year-old Edrica Goode of Riverside filed suit against Planned Parenthood after her daughter died of toxic shock syndrome after undergoing an abortion at a Riverside Planned Parenthood clinic. The suit charges that Planned Parenthood negligently caused Goode's death by inserting cervical dilators even though she was suffering from a vaginal infection.

Planned Parenthood of San Diego and Riverside Counties has been a frequent target of lawsuits by women who say they were injured by "the nation's leading sexual and reproductive healthcare advocate and provider." Keri Kuehn sued Planned Parenthood of San Diego and Riverside County and its associate medical director, Dr. Thomas P. Moran, following an unspecified “surgical procedure” performed by Moran at the First Avenue Medical Center in San Diego in May 2004. Although the lawsuit, filed in July of the same year, does not make clear the nature of the “surgical procedure,” Planned Parenthood’s web site notes that the services offered at the First Avenue clinic are “surgical abortion” and “vasectomy.” Following surgery, Kuehn said in her complaint, she began experiencing “extreme abdominal pain,” and went to the emergency room at UCSD Medical Center, where she underwent surgery a day later to repair a perforated colon and a perforated uterus. Following the surgery to repair those injuries, according to court documents, Kuehn required the use of a colostomy bag and, later, more surgery. Planned Parenthood and Moran settled the case before trial.

In April 2002, Kelly Nishiyama sued Planned Parenthood of San Diego and Riverside County and its medical director, Dr. Katharine L. Sheehan, following an outpatient tubal ligation performed by Sheehan the year before. During the surgery, Sheehan perforated the bowel of Nishiyama, which required her admission to the hospital and emergency surgery to repair the damage. Nishiyama suffered “excruciating pain” as a consequence, resulting in “a series of life-threatening complications,” according to court records. That case was settled before trial in 2003.

If you wanted quality health care, why would you go to an institution that was founded on killing babies?

Is that where they do all the “legal, safe” abortions? A friend of ours is a doctor. He has to take care of these little girls after their botched abortions. Punctured womb, parts of baby left inside the womb, massive infections, sterility. These things do not make the news.

Of course it doesn't... Doesn't fit "the template", you see...

I'm amused by a Catholic organization excoriating another organization for malpractice and cover-up.

Hypocrisy of the highest order.

He could (and should) make a small fortune by simply referring them to a good slip and fall lawyer..

No insurance coverage, no doubt. Or perhaps, she went there initially for a pregnancy test?

“Glover’s lawsuit alleges that, after performing a Pap smear, Planned Parenthood of San Diego and Riverside Counties failed to tell her the result: that the test revealed she had cervical cancer.”

Why didn’t the woman call PP to get the results of her tests instead of waiting for them to call her? I always call after my visits to my doc.
