This is just exactly what happned when W.'s father was in office.

Sounds right to me - BillyBob got elected, perhaps it will be Hillary this time. We are eating our own here - nobody running is good enough - so Hillary will more than likely win. God save us!

” don’t see how there’s much wiggle room for the party to change its message”

That is correct there is not much wiggle room there. We just need to do it.

But, still the message needs to worked on and we need to be giving alternatives to the Dem’s way of doing things. I think we should set up a private Health Insurance buyers Coop. yes, it would need the government to start it and transfer by law to a publicly owned coop owned by policy holders in a few years. The coop would take people health app’s and a small fee for underwriting and assign it to a like risk pool and let the companies bid on it. Since 40% of most health insurance policy premiums go for marketing and commissions that would be a way to save a significant chunk. Of course it always gets framed in whether we have nothing or socialized medicine. As a result we will one day have socialized medicine only because we refuse to do anything and choose to do nothing.

“I don’t believe it’s due to W’s fear of alienating any one. The amnesty fiasco proved that wrong.”

I think the amnesty fiasco proves me right. Bush and his unimaginitive, unconected to reality buddies in the White House did not want to offend Hispanic’s so they offended everyone with that bill.

They have lost part of thier base, they have made mistakes, they have become institutionalized and they have lost the center. The center is not won it is lost, and right now we are losing it. Reagan won it primarily because the lib nut cakes lost it. Don’t count on that happening again. we need good alternatives to the Dem’s. we need to be aggressive in confronting the MSM and finding alternative media. And develop a strategy to win. To do that we need to be looking down the road for the next generation and not living in the past and being involved in the kind of messaging that worked in the past but does not work now.

“P.S. One of the best things Newt Gingrich and Dick Armey did when they led the Republicans in the pre ‘94 minority era was to force the caucus to develop a Republican substitute on all major legislation, starting with the budget. The minority Republicans of that era actually thought through all the tough issues and developed a coherent response. The dems did nothing similar.”

Good Point! Bush and company show no imagination or creativity and neither do any of the other Gop leaders that I can see except for Rudy who I believe is probably the only one who can unite the base and take the center and win. You have to have ideas and not just slogans. Many people on this board think you can win just by repeating cliches about Conservative government. Well you can’t! You have to have a can do problem solving capability and show creativity and imagination. We have to attack the structural imbalances in the MSM and other wise that that empty suit Bush is just not doing. We have just go to have leader above everything else.

“F on presenting conservative ideas to the public in an appealing/persuasive manner”

That is so true. Bush and company do not have the ability to do this or at least are not even trying. They are not acting as leaders they just seem to be taking up space and bogged down in Iraq. I refused to vote in 2000 (for the only time in mylife) because I just saw him as a clone of his father. A man with no ideas no agenda. Someone who stands for nothing and just lets the country drift.A true passive do nothing country club Republican.

I have a hard time buying this.

If it was true, then the Democrat controlled Congress wouldn't be sitting on a 14% approval rating, while President Bush's is around 33%.

the media and the dems would have you believe that the low approval rating is also President Bushes fault for his failed Iraq policies or some such bullshit.

It’s all about THE PROPOGANDA. And it continues 365/24/7 unabated.

And it WORKS in a media-centric society....

Until we have a candidate (FRED?) that can deliver the message above the din of the screaming and foriegn-financed leftists, and thier gay/Democrat allies in the MSM, we’re SCREWED.

Let’s take a look at few headline examples from just the last FEW MINUTES, on a SINGLE Financial STOCKS message board.

Our politicians, (both parties) believe they are smarter than the rest of us. They won’t do what we want them to.

More accurately, perhaps, we won't do what they want us to do. Which is: re-elect them.

Consider how much of the recent Congressional activity is concerned with muting the peoples' voice. E.g., McCain-Feingold Incumbency Protection Act and Comprehensive Immigration Reform -- whose most profound impact would have been to re-make the electorate into a more dependent, thus pliable, mass.

These political initiatives have come from both sides of the aisle. There is certainly bi-partisan agreement on one thing: It is more important to stay in office and accrue power than it is to be subject to the will of the people.

I haven’t spent a lot of time here since the Rudy Wars. But let’s have a little perspective. In 1979-80, people feared that the country’s best days were behind us. The Soviets were in Afghanistan. The Cubans sent troops anywhere they wanted. Our hostages in Iran were shown on TV every night. Jimmy Carter shook and bit his nails.

Domestically, mass murderers were rampant and liberal judges released the most vile killers routinely, based on insane rulings from an insane Supreme Court that had turned the country upside down for a generation. The liberal answer to rising crime was to attempt to take our guns. Inflation, unemployment, interest rates, and gas lines were our lot.

In 1980, the press said that America would choose between Jimmy Carter and Ted Kennedy. There was no other point of view allowed. America would never select a conservative president, ever. This was taught as fact in schools. I will never forget Tom Brokaw’s face on election night.

More than a quarter century later, because of Ronald Reagan, progress has been made in every one of those areas. We are safer in our homes, in spite of horrible crimes like the one in Connecticut this week. In the seventies, one of those was on the news nearly every day. (HIllside Strangler, etc..) We are winning on guns. Abortion is not shouted and snarled from the lips of our enemies. They are on the defensive about it. Not us.

The Soviet Union is gone. Did we honestly think those liberal pigs who demanded we kneel and grovel to the USSR for so long would actually thank us for ending the Cold War? No, they still insist it was Gorbachev who was the hero of the era.

This thread is a real downer. What is so bad? We sit in our living rooms with our coffee and pretzels and preach on a message board. Real hard life we got here, folks. Have some perspective.

Ronald Reagan was a Churchill. People only turn to one of those in terrible times. When times are good, human selfishness, greed, or disinterest are likely to rule the day and win elections because then it’s just politics. There is nothing higher at stake. We won big in 2002 and 2004 because of higher national needs.

I know somebody a lot higher than the president. It’s Him I trust, through darkness and light, Clintons or no-Clintons. All will be well. Regards to you all. Luke

.. .. great post (#13) , EBH

so , recent history (the past few hundreds of years) is replete with socialists/commies , and their disastrous assaults on mankind

{ now just think of Dana Garvey’s Church Lady voice }

so , who could “cleanse” the historical record , and help socialists/commies advance their latest leaders ?

who could be pleased with themselves by promoting programs/agendas against American values & interests , keeping up the drumbeat[s] , basically making the unpalatable palatable ?

entrusted with the care & protection of TRUTH ,.. the daily flow of info is shaded , and warped by reporters/journalists

who “runs” the journalism schools ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?

By alternative, you must mean Ducan Hunter and Fred Thompson. Because if rudy is going to unite the base, he will have to do it before the base decides to nominate either of these men. Failing at that, rudy won't make it to the general election.

Yep, we are going to get absolutely creamed. Strangely enough, your typical conservative doesn't give a hoot. Because we navigate political matters by steering for what we think is right, not what we think is popular. And easily half the reasons Republicans are unpopular right now, are because they are standing for correct policies that convey deeply unpleasant truths about the world, home to the American people. Another half, certainly, are self inflicted stupidities.

We will be lucky to hold most of the south and half of the west in the next election, and the liberals will consider their impending victory a generational mandate to undo the entire Reagan legacy and go back to building a semi-socialist great society on a 1970s model. With slightly more rational (Rubin-esque) macroeconomics, that is all.

The Republicans have lost 3 major components of the coalition that has made them successful in the past. In the northeast, pro business Republicans whose signature issue is low taxes and management of the economy, have been driven out by relentlessly pounding them as cultural traitors to the populist grass roots in the rest of the country. These people have decided that they agree with the left on the culture, and are leaving, taking the remaining Republican strength in the northeast (and California) with them. Their defection is also helpful to the left financially, and provides them and deprives us of excellent personnel.

Second and much more important in an electoral sense, the upper midwest has had it over the war, and is in full revolt against what they see as Republican warmongering and incompetence. While entirely patriotic, they have always been more isolationist than the rest of the country, in matters of trade as well as military action. Illinois and Michigan went a long time ago over this, and now Wisconsin, Iowa, and Missouri are following suit. The entire Mississipi valley is in play. All the left has to do there is promise to bring the boys home, and it will win in a walk.

Meanwhile in the west, the party elites have stiffed the base over immigration, and the populists will first try to drive the nominee to the right over it, but if that fails they will simply fail to show up, en masse. They already started in the last election (along with the previous), but it will be vastly worse if we run a pro amnesty candidate. And if we instead articulate a low brow nativism, then the first group above is goner than gone.

The left does not have a coherent policy to offer on national security. In the long run, that will out, and the people will recover some of their natural Jacksonian hawkishness. But right now only the deep south remotely feels that way, and even their patience in the matter is worn to rags.

If you stay at war forever, let your domestic opponents walk all over you and thereby lose, getting the blame for the war and defeat on top of it, and then deliberately alienate two huge portions of your base with deliberately unpopular policies or sustained rhetorical assaults, then yeah of course you are going to be creamed.

The Dems can just stand there and they will be elected. In fact they aren't standing still, but are running left to up their mandate and how far they can push when it comes.

The easiest way is to speak the truth.
Its the same in the church- We are going through a purging of people who are “lukewarm” on both sides. That will leave the good and the bad. The people in the middle are getting pushed off the fence.
For those that read and believe scripture, this is foretold.
Our job, is to NOT change the message. Its possible to change the delivery without diliuting the message.
Christ is whats needed. Pure and simple.
Its NOT ok to sacrifice your own children ( abortion or pushing them aside for your own gain)
Its NOT ok to break trust with other countries you commit to helping EVEN if it gets hard.
Its NOT ok to look the other way when bad men do bad things to good people.
Its NOT ok to have homosexual relations. It DOESNT , nor has it EVER in the history of the world improved the human race ( or even propogate it)
Its NOT ok to allow some people to break the law and enforce it on others ( hearing this illegal immigrant supporters?)
Its NOT ok to Leave your marriage if you feel it doesnt “complete” you. This destroys families for generations, which leads to moral decline, pain and suffering which eventually rots away the foundation of your society.
Its NOT ok to give people everything they want. Its very OK to give them what they need.Entitlements are the devil.
Its NOT ok to perpetrate crimes, take bribes, or allow people to do it in your sight.

People can change. All things can be forgiven, but first, people must hit rock bottom. Then, once people are broken of their own will, they can be renewed faster than you can imagine with Gods help.
I firmly believe this country is going through the rock bottom stage right now. There is great hope though. Dont be discouraged. Do the right thing and be patient.
We need a leader who will go on record saying there is a good and an evil, and they need to follow what they say with actions that match the words.
Thats all.
Changing the message is not the answer. TRUMPETING the message with no pussyfooting around, then backing it up is the answer.
I see a LOT of people every day in my business. I notice a LOT of people are choosing sides now. Thats a good thing. The goal is to get as many people to our side as possible without lying about what we are about.
There are more good people than bad. The bad just flap their gums more.
Dont be afraid friends. Be Bold. Its almost time to start taking ground. Jut be patient and keep the faith.
