The same type of gun commonly used by Iraqi security forces is legally being sold to civilians in Rock Hill.

Geez, the author couldn't even get beyond the first paragraph without spouting a bold-faced lie.

For those infamiliar with firearms, the AK-47s used by Iraqi security forces are true "assault rifles", i.e. they are selective-fire (capable of both semi-automatic and fully-automatic fire).

The AK-style rifles sold in the U.S. (e.g. WASR-10) are semi-automatic ONLY.

The same knives use by the Yakuza are also available at Bed Bath & Beyond.

The first lie really was that he called an AK-47 a powerful rifle. People can buy hunting rifles that are much more powerful.

Democrats, raise taxes, fund socialism and gun control. Lie about all, No one seems to know why, it’s just the way Democrats are.

Jack the Ripper and Elizabeth Borden never owned a gun between them. For that matter, Genghis Khan never owned a gun...

The Romanian WASR is a great value.

And now for this:

Dresner said. "It's not worth it to have that on your conscious."

I'm reasonably certain that Mr. Dresner said "conscience".

Reporters are idiots.

Scholarly: ***That's the main reason gun-control advocates are concerned about the sale of assault weapons. They claim the guns were manufactured for killing people, not any other reason.*** Guns are manufactured for the sole reason of killing things.

Rock Hill Police Department said several shell casings from the high-powered rifles have turned up at crime scenes recently. He said there are two or three unsolved shootings, none fatal, where investigators found the bullet shells.

Holy cow, I didn't know that the AK uses its own special ammo. The cops must have read the AK-47 stamp on the side of the casings......

“Critics fear powerful rifles might land in wrong hands”

They will - regardless of any gun laws.

Allowing ordinary citizens to purchase them just levels the playing field. I prefer an M-1 or M-14 myself.

“AK-47s should not be available for sale. There’s really no argument,” said Zach Ragbourn, a spokesman for the Brady Campaign, the nation’s leading gun-control lobby. “They’re designed to attack people, period. They’re not for hunting or a fun collector’s item.”

I’m always amused by anti gun nuts who don’t know what they are talking about, telling us gun owners what is a ‘collectible’ and what constitutes a ‘assault weapon’.

I love my WASR. Folding stock. Cheap to buy (you can see tool-marks) but cheap ammo, too, very little recoil, fairly accurate, has never mis-fired, you can field strip it in seconds.
Toss it in the bed of your truck, occasional touch-up with a can of barbque grill paint.
Great value, good gun-—and a wonderful fringe benefit:
it really pisses off any libagoo-goos who see it.

They've also found sneaker tracks and tire tracks and police are calling for a ban on Nikes and SUVs.

“They’re not for hunting or a fun collector’s item.”

In spite of the fact that people hunt with them and collect them for fun.

You have a good response to the article. The explanation you gave has been offered by so many already but the MSM just don’t get it. But it is more likely that they don’t want to get it in order to promote their leftist agenda.

This weekend I am going to get my “assault rifle” (AR-15 by Colt) at the gun show. After that I plan to assault that hill on the firing range.

AK’s sold in the US are semiauto only, built on US made recievers. The reporter knows nothing.

Some experts may disagree, but I’ve read the best quality AK’s were those made in the DDR, the old East Germany.

Ragbourn said the term "assault weapon" was coined by the gun industry years ago as a marketing tool.

A particularly outrageous and bold-faced lie. The term was coined by gun-control advocates to attempt to create a problem that didn't and still doesn't really exist. The entire body of the fraudulent and ineffective "Assault Weapons Ban" was written around this little rhetorical scam.

I'm in the middle of building my first AK-style weapon from a flat blank and a Romanian parts kit right now.

I wonder what this sissy reporter would think about my ability to do this in my own garage without a gummint background check?

“He said any weapon capable of firing multiple rounds in a split second shouldn’t be offered on store shelves.”

Apparently, a Ruger 10/22 is also an assault weapon.

I telephoned the author of the article. He was receptive to my questioning of his use of the term assault rifle. The man simply was unaware of the true definition of assault rifle.
I thought the cost of the AKs was high but he said he checked with three guns stores and they were selling them for the price he quoted. Credit to him for doing the checking.
